Steve Smith: Travis started really nicely. The new ball had something in it and they (MINY) went defensive against him. Gous batted well in the middle, Marco and Jasdeep gave us a good start with the ball. Our plan was to not allow them to get off to a flier and keep them in check. Marco bowls his best when he's charging in and he got a good zip, Jasdeep too playing his first game was incredible, that powerplay set us up. We have achieved our first objective of qualifying for the playoffs and hopefully we keep going.

Kieron Pollard: I think we were decent (with the ball). Travis got some runs but we contained them in the powerplay, they got away after that and we managed to pull it back towards the end. It (the batting) was atrocious. Second night in a row when the middle order is batting in the powerplay which is not acceptable. I take the responsibility for that as I have to get them (the batters) going.

Jasdeep Singh | Player of the Match: Two weeks back when MLC started, I was disappointed for not being here. I was completely down but this was all God's plan and I am happy to repay him. I just tried to keep it simple. I had a chat with Ricky and Shaun, they told me to keep it simple and stick to the plan. I had the nerves coming in as a replacement, he (Saurabh Netravalkar) has been doing well and there was pressure, but I am happy to just stand here. They (international players) have been sportive right through and made me feel comfortable.

Rachin Ravindra: I was trying?to build a partnership with Gous. They were bowling well and using the big boundary, sometimes things work out and sometimes they don't, happy it did today (on his 14-ball 31). It is a different role but there are so many world class players in the team, I am happy to bat anywhere as I get to learn. That's a great start to the tournament and there are a lot more games to go.

You are not going to win games with such scores. Only two batters got into double digits. The pitch had some assistance for the fast bowlers and Washington Freedom's pacers take full advantage of it. The first 8 wickets to fall were all to pacers with Jasdeep Singh being the standout with 3/14. Early on, Travis Head and Gous smacked fifties while Rachin Ravindra played a blinder as the trio gave Washington Freedom a total that was way above par. The question will be how did MINY allow Washington to get to such a total when there was so much help for the bowlers. That is something they will have to discuss.
