Jason Holder: "Extremely happy with the way we have started the series. It wasn't easy - the pitch; Pretty tough upfront for the bowlers. Each bloke came in and put up his hand. Credit to the batters as well. The partnership I had with Dowrich and the way Bishoo batted was outstanding. He eased the pressure on Shane. We just felt it was a brilliant contribution from the lower order and we backed it up in the field in the first innings.

"I was not worried. It (the pitch) was deteriorating and I told the boys that we need to keep coming at it. We just need to put the pressure on the Sri Lankans and when we got wickets, we got it in clusters towards the end. Extremely pleased with the way Shane played; was disappointed when Kieran got out yesterday. It happen in the game. It's a matter for him to be consistent, he's been given a new role at No. 3 and hopefully he can solidify the position. We are going to be very hard on ourselves - hopefully we can pick ourselves on the field. One or two chances with the run-outs and a bit of sloppy work from time to time. That's the main area we'd like to improve.

"This is the first time after a long time that that we went in with a combination of five bowlers and it paid off,. It showed on a surface like this where we had to work hard for the wickets. The extra bowler came out trumps and did a big job. Credit to Roston, he came in and did an excellent job. Devendra was outstanding. Not only he built pressure, but also picked wickets. I am really proud of the guys."

Shane Dowrich, Man of the Match: "We played well throughout the five days. We had to work hard to score. My thought process was to stick to the basics. It worked out for me. For me, consistency is what I am focussing on."

Dinesh Chandimal: "Our fielding was below par on Day 1. That's part of the game. We need to learn from the mistakes. We can take positives from the game, specially Kusal Mendis, it was a special knock. Lahiru Kumara also bowled well in the first and second innings. Credit to West Indies, they played outstanding cricket. He (Dhananjaya) batted at No. 3 in the last 4-5 series, I feel we just want to play him. Let's see how it goes."

Just a few overs into the second session and the Windies spinners have wiped out the tail. Bishoo sent back Herath while Chase accounted for Lakmal and Kumara off successive deliveries to finish with 4 for 15. Windies win by 226 runs, having bowled out Sri Lanka for the same number.

Day 5, Lunch:

With the second new-ball due in an over's time, Chandimal decided to take on Roston Chase. However, he failed in his execution as he mistimed it and handed a catch to Kraigg Brathwaite to depart for 27.Dickwella is trapped in front soon after, costing Sri Lanka a review in the process, as the visitors slip to 222 for 7.

Sri Lanka cross 200:

A few boundaries scored by Dickwella and Chandimal, although the Windies bowlers have been troubling the batsmen. Sri Lanka have gone past the 200 mark. Meanwhile, Dickwella earns a reprieve - he was beaten outside off by a Roach delivery and Windies didn't appeal. Replays later revealed that there was some bat involved.

Wicket for Bishoo:

Scoring three off 49 deliveries isn't a bad effort at all by nightwatchman Gamage. But he has to depart as he's trapped in front with a straight delivery from Bishoo. Sri Lanka also lose a review in the process. The visitors are 195 for 5 with Chandimal and Dickwella at the crease.

Gabriel ends Mendis's defiant knock:

The variable bounce gets its victim, and a big one at that. It was a short of a length delivery that took off and Mendis, who was looking to defend, could only glove the ball to the 'keeper. Sri Lanka are 189 for 4.

Ton up for Mendis:

Gamage has done a good job of staying with Mendis, who brings up his fifth Test hundred in style, clipping a Holder delivery to the leg-side fence for a four. Sri lanka move to 185 for 3.

Hello and welcome to the Live Blog for the fifth and final day of the first Test between Windies and Sri Lanka in Port of Spain. This was the venue, 42 years back, where India had overhauled the target of 403, reaching 406 to register the then highest total in a successful chase in Test cricket. Can history repeat itself? The highest ever total in a successful chase is 418 by West Indies against Australia in 2003. Can Sri Lanka set a new record?

Needing 453 for victory, the visitors ended Day 3 at 176 for 3, needing 277 on the final day to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Kusal Mendis, who was part of two half-century partnerships, remained unbeaten on 94. This was after Dinesh Chandimal had retired ill due to heat stroke symptoms. The nightwatchman Lahiru Kumara is giving Mendis company at the present time but the onus will be on Chandimal, Niroshan Dickwella and Dilruwan Perera - the remaining frontline batsmen - to support Mendis in taking Sri Lanka closer.

Sunil Gavaskar, who was part of the history making game in 1976 and had scored a crucial 102, is now part of the commentary panel for this game and he reckons Sri Lanka can pull it off. But for that to happen, they need to show sufficient application and take it one ball at a time, and not look too far ahead. Meanwhile, Stuart Law, the Windies coach, believes as long as his bowlers hit the right lengths and attacked the stumps, they would be on track, factoring in the variable bounce on offer on the final day.
