Kusal Perera, Man of the Match: I'm still tired now. I don't know what to say. Great effort as a team, specially the lower order batsmen. They gave me good support. I believed in myself and we did. I did my part, winning as a team. We did our homework. This is a special win for us.We did a lot of hard work in previous times.

Karunaratne: It was an awesome game. We knew before coming here that we had a good chance. We have played here in Durban, in 2012 we won a match here. We had a tough series in Australia, but we learnt many things and I knew boys will give their best here in South Africa. We have lost lot of matches in the last few years. It will be good for us and Sri Lankan fans. This is a proud moment for me as a captain and for Sri Lanka. Winning in South Africa is a real proud moment. We were not moving from our places. The dressing room was happy and that's what I want. End of the day, we did a good job here, result is good as well. He (Kusal Perera) batted really well. He is one of the most experienced players in the side. His hundred is incredible, getting a hundred in South Africa is not easy. Two debutants did really well. As a team, we have to play as a unit and give our best.

Faf du Plessis: Incredible game of cricket, obviously very disappointed being on the losing side. Having gone down to none wickets and that 60-70 run partnership for the last wicket, it's great for the game of Test cricket. I suppose that's the kind of Test matches you want to see. So, well played to Sri Lanka. Perera was unbelievable, to get 160 (sic) out of that score will take a Superman effort. He deserves all the accolades he will get after this game. The ball swung a bit in both the innings. We were under-par from runs point of view. We were 50 runs short in the first innings and about 30-50 in the second innings. Our bowlers were very good over the last two days. (On losing 5/8) It was strange. We were batting, at that time myself and Vern and the ball was pretty placid. The wicket was slow and made the ball soft. It hit the paint on the crease, they changed it and it started to swing. The swing was what that did us. There's no express pace in the Sri Lankan attack, you'd want to hang around. I thought 300 was enough on this wicket and obviously great batting took it away from us. I'd be lying if I say there wasn't emotions going through me inside. Difficult for a captain, tactically. You want to protect the lead and then also you want to bowl at the tail. They just kept knocking it over. Brilliant bowling from Dale again, Kesh (Maharaj) was brilliant too. He was unlucky today not to get more wickets. Disappointed not to have Vern today conditions wise it was perfect for him. That changed our bowling plan. I'd have backed my team to take 10 wickets. It's disappointing because it's just a 2-match series. We'll most certainly come back stronger.

SRI LANKA WIN ...

Wow! What a knock. Perera ends with 153 off 200. He guides one past the first slip to collect a boundary and help his side seal an unlikely win.

The visitors were 206 for 5 at one stage needing just 98 more for an upset. It was then Keshav Maharaj's turn to turn the game on its head and help his team surge ahead. South Africa had been dealt with an unkind cut even before the day started with Vernon Philander out with a hamstring injury. But it was always going to be about how Maharaj turned up - especially with plenty of support from the track. The left-arm spinner bagged 3 for 71 and his two wickets in two balls in the 64th over that made South Africa believe.

After Oshada Fernando and Kusal Perera frustrated the hosts in the first session with a half-century stand, Dhananjaya de Silva and Perera joined forces to alarm South Africa. If you want to see a batsman intimidating the opposition, find yourself the clip of the de Silva square cut against Kagiso Rabada in the last ball of the 61st over. Such was the authority on that stroke that the beliefs soared as the deficit went south of 110. During the 96-run stand for the sixth wicket, both Perera and de Silva looked on top of Rabada, played Dale Steyn with caution and did well to keep the Maharaj threat at bay.

Just when it seemed Sri Lanka will drive home the advantage - with 98 more needed - Maharaj struck. De Silva missed a sweep and was adjudged lbw after a review while Suranga Lakmal was caught at slip on the first ball he faced. At 206 for 7, the smiles at the Sri Lankan dressing room had vanished. They were staring at an inevitable defeat with the hosts clearly on top. Perera continued to resist and got to his century in the 74th over with a single to the one side. This was the first Test ton by a Sri Lanka batsman in the last eight innings.

There was plenty of drama towards the end as Perera helped the side steadily move towards the target. There were wides, overthrows and audacious strokes as Vishwa Fernando and Perera raised a half-century stand for the final wicket. Fernando continued to block as Perera unleased a barrage of sixes against Steyn and Rabada to transfer the pressure on the hosts. Once the equation was brought down to four, Perera guided a wide delivery from Rabada past slip to pick up an unlikely win.

Earlier in the day, Fernando and Perera made a solid start to frustrate South Africa in the first half an hour. They took the side past 100 before Dale Steyn bagged two in three deliveries to make it South Africa's session. The pacer first had Fernando caught at second slip and then took a stunner off his own bowling to dismissed Niroshan Dickwella for a duck. The de Silva-Perera stand stayed unbeaten till lunch as the visitors scored 83 in the session.

Sri Lanka now have 300 on the board. This is a classic!

BIG MOMENT: Maharaj has managed to disldoge de Silva. Brilliant review by South Africa. It was given not out as the batsman missed the sweep. He was pinged in front but it was given not out. Replays show it was crashing into the leg stump. The 96-run stand comes to an end.

200 UP: This stand is now intimidating South Africa. Just 100 more runs needed now by the visitors. The Sri Lankan dressing room is pumped. The partnership is now 94. Superb fightback this from Sri Lanka.

LUNCH - Sri LANKA 166 FOR 5; NEED 138

After a frustrating initial half hour, it took Dale Steyn just three deliveries to rattle Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka scored 83 in the session - taking their score to 166 for 5 - and still need 138 to claim an unlikely win. The match hangs in balance as South Africa took the field without Vernon Philander who is struggling with a hamstring injury.

Sri Lanka made a promising start to the day with Oshada Fernando and Kusal Perera frustrating the hosts in the first half hour with some solid application. Both batsmen trusted their defence and looked keen on keeping things simple. Perera did play a few attacking strokes while Fernando showed he's got potential to flourish at the Test level. Fernando took the score past 100 with a lovely on drive off Kagiso Rabada and stretched their stand to 58.

Steyn, however, got twin strikes to push the visitors back just when it seemed they are going to threaten South Africa. In the 38th over, Steyn got one outside off and Fernando chased the delivery as it moved away. The outside edge was gobbled up by Faf du Plessis at second slip as the right-hander fell for a 76-ball 37. Two deliveries later, Niroshan Dickwella saw the pacer pluck out an uppish drive with a one-handed catch. From 110 for 3, Sri Lanka were now tottering at 110 for 5.

Perera kept the runs flowing and got good support from Dhananjaya de Silva even as Keshav Maharaj caused all sorts for trouble. They ensured their stand stayed unbeaten on 56 and kept chipping away to keep the team in the hunt.

50-PARTNERSHIP: After a 58-run stand for the fourth wicket, Sri Lanka continue to frustrate the hosts. De Silva and Perera have now stitched another half-century stand to keep the team in the hunt.

50 FOR PERERA: His second half-century in the game. In the first innings, he went hard and eventually threw his wicket away. Now he needs to guide the innings forward. He's played some aggressive shots to keep South Africa on their toes and needs to continue that.

ONE BRINGS TWO: Steyn has two wickets in three deliveries. Brilliant from the pacer. Length ball and it stopped on the surface. Dickwella pushed at that one and played the ball towards the bowler. Steyn stuck his right hand out and plucks it out with ease.

FIRST BREAK: Steyn gets the first one in the day. Outside off and Fernando followed that one. Thick outside edge and the catch was taken by du Plessis at second slip. He batted well for his 37.

50-RUN STAND: Oshada Fernando looks like a player with plenty of potential. He's just driven one past Rabada to bring up the half-century stand. Kusal Perera too isn't shying away from playing aggressive strokes.

100 UP: Solid start by Fernando and Perera this. They've played proper cricket, unlike their top order, and have looked comfortable. Steyn and Rabada haven't looked threatening but there have been a few miss-hits.

Hello and welcome to the live blog of the fourth day of the first Test between South Africa and Sri Lanka in Durban. This should be the deciding day. Seven wickets for South Africa; 221 runs for Sri Lanka - that's where the equation stands. The bowling side has the advantage as the track is helping the bowlers and Sri Lanka's fragile batting order hasn't delivered in the last three Tests.

South Africa, however, will be on their toes. Some quick runs in the first session and the pressure will be back on them. Kusal Perera, who struck an impressive half-century in the first innings, is batting and he was looking to attack in the last session on Day 3.
