Half centuries from Soumya Sarkar and Mushfiqur Rahim and their involvements in two fifty-plus stands apiece complemented a disciplined bowling performance from the Asian team as they registered a six-wicket win over West Indies in the tri-series clash at The Village, Dublin on Monday (May 13). Chasing 248 for victory, Bangladesh took until the 48th over to get over the line, with the victory confirming their spot in the final - which will be against the Jason Holder-led side.

Sarkar and Tamim Iqbal provided a solid start in the chase with a 54-run stand for the opening wicket. While Ashley Nurse managed to end the stand by sending back Tamim, Sarkar found an able ally in Shakib Al Hasan as they put on a 52-run partnership to steady the chase. A double strike from Nurse, in the 21st over - when he accounted for the wickets of Shakib and Sarkar - led West Indies' fightback but there was a comeback from Bangladesh too, one that would see the team through.
Getting together with the scorecard reading 107 for 3, Rahim and Mohammad Mithun got Bangladesh back on track with their 84-run partnership, with the former registering a fine half-century. Following the dismissal of Mithun, Rahim put on a fifty-run stand with Mahmudullah that eased Bangladesh closer to the target. Although the wicketkeeper-batsman wasn't there until the end, Mahmudullah ensured Bangladesh's victory.
Earlier, the Caribbean side, who opted to bat, were in a spot of bother losing four wickets for just 99 runs. However, Jason Holder and Shai Hope lifted the West Indies' spirits with a stand of hundred for the fifth wicket. At 199 for 5 in the 42nd over, West Indies looked set to end up with a sizeable total. At that stage, Mashrafe Mortaza, the Bangladesh skipper, struck twice to remove both Hope and Holder in quick succession.
The duo of Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan then took over to plot West Indies' downfall by picking up three scalps between them. Among West Indies' lower order batsmen, only Ashley Nurse reached double figures. Mustafizur returned impressive figures of 4-43. On the other hand, Mortaza took three scalps but conceded 60 runs.
