AUSTRALIA WIN BY 279 RUNS. Nathan Lyon finishes with ten wickets for the match, with his second five-wicket haul in as many innings, as New Zealand were bowled out for 136. They thus complete a 3-0 whitewash.

Matt Henry's fractured thumb prevented him from coming out to bat, so Australia needed just 9 wickets for victory. And after New Zealand were reduced to 38/5, there was no point of return. Ross Taylor, en route his 22, became New Zealand's highest Test run-scorer (7174) going past Stephen Fleming and Colin de Grandhomme kept Australia at bay with a half-century, but the hosts were too good in the end for New Zealand.

Earlier, David Warner's century gave Australia a comfortable lead before they declared, leaving New Zealand with a mighty task ahead. Anyway, another Test wrapped up in four days by the hosst on the back of another clinical outing. Thank you for your company through the course of the Test series.

Colin de Grandhomme nearly single-handedly taking New Zealand forward. With the help of five boundaries, the all-rounder has already marched into his 40s. After facing 83 deliveries, Watling is yet to hit double-digits - just to put things in perspective.

New Zealand, meanwhile, could produce only one wicket but haven't managed to threaten Australia by any means. 450, ideally, and Australia would put NZ in. Whitewash is a matter of time unless NZ can muster the strength to bat four (or more) sessions for a consolation draw. Be back in 35!

Day 4 of the Sydney Test is upon us. Expect ruthlessness from Australia, as they look to build on that lead of 243 with all wickets intact. Expect New Zealand to put in their all and then some more as they attempt to evade a whitewash. And expect some rain. Given what's been happening in Southern Australia lately, in a surprisingly welcome move, both teams would be glad to have some of the weather forecast of scattered showers come true. Sydney needs it, more now than ever.
