Division One

Hampshire vs Lancashire

Hasan Ali claimed a five-fer while James Anderson added three as Lancashire's international quality seamers bowled Hampshire out for 246 at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. The hosts, who were reduced to 40 for 5 after opting to bat, were spared the blushes by a fine 101* from Nick Gubbins. Further contributions came from the lower-order, which saw Felix Organ hit 42 while James Fuller helped himself to a half-century. Lancashire reached 37 for 1 after 17 overs of batting before Stumps.

Gloucestershire vs Surrey

Table toppers Surrey recovered from a top-order wobble to reach 294 for 4 on the opening day of their clash against Gloucestershire. The recovery from 37 for 3 was led by a 151-run stand between Ollie Pope and keeper-bat Jamie Smith. While Pope fell for 84, Smith kicked on to reach his century before Stumps, putting on another century stand with Sam Curran (57*).

Somerset vs Warwickshire

Somerset, beaten in each of their three games this season, enjoyed a productive start to their fourth round fixture at home against defending champions Warwickshire, reaching 351 for 4 at Stumps on the opening day after being inserted in to bat. Each of their top-three went on to score in excess of 50 with Matt Renshaw's 129 being the centrepiece of their batting effort. His opening partner Tom Lammonby hit 56 in a 137-run stand while skipper Tom Abell added 70. Oliver Hannon-Dalby took three of the four wickets to fall for visitors Warwickshire.

Essex vs Northamptonshire

Essex reduced Northamptonshire to 233 for 7 on the opening day, vindicating their decision to bowl first at Chelmsford. The pair of Samuel Cook and Shane Snater took two wickets apiece while Mark Steketee, Matthew Critchely and Paul Walter split the other three wickets to fall. A pair of 60s from Will Young and Luke Procter propped the visitors on an otherwise insipid day of batting. Northamptonshire will hope Procter can get support from the tail and kick on to get a big hundred in order to run last year's Division Two champions close in this encounter.

Yorkshire vs Kent

Daniel Bell-Drummond's 109 and half-centuries from Jordan Cox (68) and Oliver Robinson (58) helped visitors Kent recover from a terrible start and reach 270 for 6 by Stumps on the opening day of their clash against Yorkshire. Kent, who had lost the toss, were reduced to 20 for 3 by Haris Rauf before Bell-Drummond and Cox put on 133. Bell-Drummond then put on another 74-run stand for the fifth wicket with Robinson before falling to Matthew Revis. His 194-ball stay in the middle was studded with 17 fours.

Division Two

Sussex vs Durham

Consigned to bowling first on a good-looking Hove pitch, Sussex bowlers Aaron Beard and Tom Clark shared six wickets between them as Durham were bowled out for 224. That they reached that total from 75/6 was down to Liam Trevaskis's 88 at No 7. In response, Tom Haines's half-century at the top gave Sussex 82/1 at Stumps on Day 1.

Nottinghamshire vs Worcestershire

Dane Paterson's stunning haul of 8 for 52 shot out Worcestershire for only 159 on the opening day, with Stuart Broad picking 1 for 42 as noise around his comeback grows under a new Test captain. Jack Haynes and Ed Pollock were the only batters who made it past 30 on a lively pitch at Trent Bridge. Nottinghamshire themselves lost seven wickets in response by stumps on Day 1, but scraped to 203 in the process, pinching a 44-run lead.

Middlesex vs Leicestershire

Shaheen Afridi's 3 for 54, which included two wickets in two balls in the fifth over, twinned with Tom Helm's 3 for 23 to help bowl out Leicestershire for 149. The visitors were tottering at 90/8 when Beuran Hendricks and Callum Parkinson hit 20 odd runs each to take the total near 150. Middlesex had a 60-run opening stand in response, going up to 142/2 at Stumps on Day 1. Mark Stoneman remained unbeaten on 80.

Derbyshire vs Glamorgan

Brooke Guest hit a hundred and Shan Masood continued his run-making ways with a 60 as Derbyshire compiled 282/5 at Stumps on Day 1. Also key to the total was Wayne Madsen's 70 but he fell to Michael Neser late in the day. Michael Hogan picked three wickets, including both the openers.
