Mavi stars as UP knock out Mumbai to enter quarterfinals

Uttar Pradesh vs Mumbai

Traditional heavyweights Mumbai suffered a crushing blow to bow out. Uttar Pradesh beat them by 8 wickets on Saturday (November 26).

Put into bat, Mumbai never had a single batter in the top-order going far for them. There were fifties from Hardik Tamore and Shams Mulani but that only covered up the cracks. Shivam Mavi struck four times for UP and that ruffled the feathers in the Mumbai camp.

Chasing 221, UP openers Madhav Kaushik and Aryan Juyal added 118 runs for the first wicket. Mumbai bowlers looked hapless and UP batters pounced on anything loose. UP didn't break too much sweat and reached the total in 46 overs to enter the quarters.

Karnataka vs Jharkhand

In another low scoring affair, Karnataka prevailed over Jharkhand to book a berth in the quarters.

Jharkhand had Kumar Kushagra and Anukul Roy scoring fifties for them. But this happened after the damage was done early in the innings. They were reduced to 40 for 5 before Kushagra and Roy took over. Three-fers from Vidhwath Kaverappa, Ronit More and Venkatesh spelt doom for Jharkhand who were bowled out for 187.

Samarth and Nikin Jose got fifties for Karnataka and that set them up for the chase. Jharkhand bowlers tasted some success but that didn't help them much. Karnataka won by 5 wickets and 55 balls to spare.

Jammu and Kashmir vs Kerala

Opting to bowl first, Jammu and Kashmir didn't strike early. But once they got a breakthrough, there were regular strikes. V Manoharan tried his level best with a fine 62 but hardly got much support from the other end. Auqib Nabi was the pick of the bowlers and he snared up four wickets for 39 in his 10-over spell. Kerala limped to 174 before being bowled out.

Set a target of 175, the J&K openers struck fifties to pocket the game. Shubham Khajuria was the aggressor with a 61-ball 76. Qamran Iqbal also registered a fifty being retired hurt. They lost a few wickets but got home with ample balls left and 7 wickets in the tank.
