BCB, ECB officials meet to prepare roadmap for Women's T20 WC

A delegation of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) met their counterparts in the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) over the conduct of the Women's Twenty20 World Cup, which has been moved to the UAE from Bangladesh on account of prevailing violence, unrest and riots in the country. The BCB, though, has been retained as the designated host of the October 3-20 championship.

Newly-elected BCB president Faruque Ahmed and CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury met the ECB chief Nahyan Mabarak Al Nahyan and other ECB officials in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday in the presence of ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice. Dubai and Sharjah will be the hosts of the 23-match tournament.

"We are delighted to stage the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in the UAE. The Emirates Cricket Board has time and again proved its hosting capabilities and we are once again ready to deliver a world-class event. I want to thank the International Cricket Council and the Bangladesh Cricket Board for their trust and confidence in us. We look forward to welcoming all participants and providing top-class cricketing facilities over the course of the tournament which would see the best in the women's game competing for the ultimate glory in the T20 format," Mabarak Al Nahyan said.

The ICC recently unveiled a revised schedule of the event with the highly-anticipated Big Ticket contest between Indian women and Pakistan women slated to be held in Dubai on October 6. The ICC also confirmed that if the Harmanpreet Kaur side advance to the semifinals, they will feature in the first last-four game in Dubai on October 17.

BCB chief Faruque Ahmed expressed confidence that the 10-team tournament will be a big success. "We want to thank the Emirates Cricket Board for stepping-up to stage the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in Dubai and Sharjah. The two venues have hosted international cricket for a long time, including some major world events. We have full confidence in the ECB's ability to stage the tournament successfully. The two boards enjoy very cordial relations; we look forward to working closely with the ECB and the ICC in the delivery of the tournament."
