Mumbai batter Musheer Khan suffered a road accident and is expected to be out of cricketing action for three months. Musheer (19), the brother of India Test batter Sarfaraz Khan, will immediately miss the Irani Cup, starting in Lucknow on October 1. He was to play for Ranji champions in the five-day fixture.

The right-handed batter, who also bowls left-arm spin, suffered a fracture to his neck which will keep him out of action for at least three months. Effectively, he will miss a few Ranji Trophy matches for Mumbai too.

According to a media advisory, "Musheer is currently admitted to a hospital in Lucknow, where he remains stable, conscious, and well-oriented. He has sustained a fracture in the neck region and is under close observation. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) medical teams are closely monitoring his progress to ensure he receives the best possible care.

"Once Musheer is deemed medically fit for travel, he will be flown to Mumbai for further evaluation and additional medical treatment. The timeline for his recovery will be determined following these assessments," the release added.

Musheer, along with his father Naushad Khan, was travelling from Azamgarh to Lucknow when their car hit the divider and flipped a few times. Although the accident was serious, the young cricketer escaped without further injuries.

In a recent Duleep Trophy match, Musheer smashed an impressive 181 for India B against India A and guided his team to victory. Musheer and father Naushad were not immediately available for a comment.

This development comes as a blow for Musheer who had made rapid strides in professional cricket over the last two years. Apart from being a lock-in for Mumbai in the Irani Cup game, Musheer was also ear-marked for the India A team's shadow tour of Australia later in the year.

Musheer has been a talisman for Mumbai since his first-class debut in 2022 and averages over 50 in the nine games, including three tons and a fifty. Musheer managed the rare feat of notching up centuries on debut in the Ranji Trophy and the recently concluded Duleep Trophy games.

Musheer shone brightly in the U19 World Cup this year, ending as India's highest run-scorer (second best overall). The middle-order batter's ability to thrive under pressure on tricky surfaces has made him a name to look out for, particularly in the Test setup with India's batting unit set for transition.
