Low scores for India's stars headline opening day of latest Ranji fixtures

With the flavour of the Indian international players returning to the Ranji Trophy, Rohit Sharma (3) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (4) failed to make any sort of impact as they were dismissed for single digit scores. If not for a 53-run partnership, between Shardul Thakur (51) and Tanush Kotian (26), Mumbai would have been bowled out for a double-digit score. Umair Nazir and Yudhvir Singh Charak both scalped four wickets. J&K currently lead Mumbai's 120 by 54 runs and are 174 for 7at Stumps.
An all-round bowling performance led by Vasuki Koushik (4 for 16) and Abhilash Shetty (3 for 19) saw the hosts bowl Punjab out for 55 in Bengaluru. Shubman Gill, just like his Indian Test counterparts, only tickled the scoreboard with four runs. Only two batters reached double digits for Punjab. Karnataka began with a 55-run opening stand themselves and all their batters got starts. However, apart from Smaran Ravichandran (83*) who is continuing his good form from the Vijay Hazare Trophy, none of the other batters kicked on. Karnataka are currently 199 for 4 and lead by 144 runs.
In Salem, the hosts were bowled out 301 on the stroke of Stumps marking a decent outing with the bat for Tamil Nadu. 18-year-old Andre Siddarth C notched up a century and was well supported by Baba Indrajith (49) in a 121-run partnership while N Jagadeesan (63) and Mohamed Ali (40) began with a 101-run opening stand. Offspinner Vishu Kashyap (5 for 79) was the key destroyer for Chandigarh as he scalped a five-fer overseeing Tamil Nadu's collapse from 287 for 5 to 301 all-out.
It was a good day for Jharkhand in Jamshedpur as they restricted the visitors to 230 before surviving six overs of play unscathed before Stumps. The hosts rode on offspinner's Utkarsh Singh's five-wicket haul despite Anuj Tiwary's unbeaten 99, after he was left stranded at the other end. To make matters worse for Chhattisgarh, their last five batters contributed five runs between them.
Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal picked up six wickets to dismiss Haryana for 157. He was well accompanied by Mukesh Kumar and Mohammed Kaif who both picked up a brace of wickets. Captain Ankit Kumar scored a 50 for Haryana but there was nothing else of note for the visitors. Haryana too collapsed with the bat, losing their last six wickets for 19 runs. Bengal currently trail by 151 runs with nine wickets in hand.
In Thiruvananthapuram, the hosts bowled MP for 160 as MD Nidheesh picked up 5 for 44. Shubham Sharma scored 54 but Rajat Patidar fell for a two-ball duck. Venkatesh Iyer added a valuable 42 for MP to add some respite to their score. Kerala trail by 106 runs at Stumps, having registered an unbeaten 50-run stand between Akshay Chandran and Rohan Kunnummal.
In a finely poised match in Rajkot, the hosts first bowled Delhi for 180 led by Ravindra Jadeja's 5 for 66. Ayush Badoni scored 60 while Yash Dhull added 42 but Rishabh Pant managed only one run. Ravindra was well supported by Dharmendrasinh Jadeja who picked up a three-fer himself. Despite Harvik Desai's 93, Saurashtra are 163 for 5, trailing by 25 runs. Ravindra scored 38 in a 76-run partnership with Desai.
Maharashtra are 258 for 7 at Stumps in Nasik led by their 'keeper's fighting unbeaten 60 with the bat. Siddhesh Veer too added 48 to the total. But Nawale had registered a 68-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Ramakrishna Ghosh (26) and was now well supported by Rajneesh Gurbani (22) in an unbeaten 45-run partnership. Atit Sheth has picked up three wickets for Baroda so far.
A herculean bowling performance by Siddarth Desai saw him pick up nine wickets to skittle out Uttarakhand for 111. Only Vishal Jaiswal picked up a wicket amongst the rest of the bowlers, that too the final wicket of the innings. The hosts ended the day in a commanding position with a lead of 79 runs courtesy Manan Hingrajia's unbeaten 66 and Urvil Patel's 53.
In Hyderabad, the hosts notched up 291 for the loss of only two wickets on Day 1. Opener Tanmay Agarwal remained unbeaten on 137 and he put on an opening stand with Abhirath Reddy (73) of 147 runs. Rohit Rayudu (52) and Agarwal then added further misery to HP with a 111-run stand.
Khaleel Ahmed picked up a five-wicket haul while left-arm spinner Manav Suthar claimed three as Rajasthan bowled Vidarbha out for 165 in Jaipur. The two accounted for the first eight wickets while Kukna Ajay Singh picked up the last two. Karun Nair top scored for the visitors with 39 and only two other batters crossed the 30-mark. In reply, Rajasthan are 101 for 5 with Mahipal Lomror fighting from one end with 44* and still trail by 64 runs.
