Ed Joyce to step down as Ireland Women's coach

Ireland Women's head coach Ed Joyce has decided to step down from the role at the end of his current contract, which runs until the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier in Pakistan in April.

Joyce was appointed as the permanent head coach in September 2019 following a three-month period as the interim coach. During his tenure, Ireland registered a 51-44 win-loss record in 97 games (two no-results).

"It has been a privilege to lead Cricket Ireland's women's performance programme and to work with this group of dedicated cricketers and support staff. The last six years have been an incredible journey - not just for me personally, but for the players, coaches and, indeed, the entire performance programme," Joyce said.

"When I came on board we had just announced first-ever part-time contracts for women cricketers in Ireland. Those six part-time contracts have grown over subsequent years to now 23 players under some form of contract - a number of these being full-time. This process of professionalisation alone has been rewarding yet challenging. Throw the Covid pandemic into the mix, the constant need to juggle the availability of players who are still studying - all while meeting the demands of international cricket - the role has been all-encompassing.

"Just as in my professional playing career, I recognise the natural cycle of coaching. There comes a time when a system benefits from fresh perspectives and new voices, allowing players to explore and develop their skills in diverse ways.

"Looking back to mid-2019, I'm immensely proud of the players, coaches, and support structures we've built. They've undergone a remarkable evolution, rising to every challenge. Victories against England (twice in a week!), Pakistan (in Pakistan), and Bangladesh (in Bangladesh), alongside dominant performances against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, and competitive showings against Australia and South Africa, are testaments to their hard work and some of my fondest memories.

"I'm grateful to Cricket Ireland for their trust in me, and deeply thankful to my coaching and support team for sharing this journey. My sincere thanks also go to the players, their families, and the provincial and club coaches who have been integral to our success. A team is far more than just the eleven on the field; you've all been part of the wider team, making these past six years so enjoyable.

"This is not, I hope, the end of my journey with Irish cricket. You never can anticipate the future and what opportunities this great sport of cricket will offer in the years to come."

Former U19 World Cup winner retires at 21

Bangladesh's Under-19 World Cup winning team member Prantik Nawrose Nabil announced his decision to retire from all forms of cricket with immediate effect. The 21-year old was part of the historic World Cup winning squad in 2020 in South Africa, and has decided to step away from the game due to health issues.

Nabil, who is studying in the International Relations department of the University of Dhaka, is expected to concentrate on his studies now. "It's true that I have decided to retire and I have already left cricket," the left-handed batter told reporters on Wednesday.

Although Nabil did not disclose the exact reason behind his decision to retire, Cricbuzz understands his severe dust allergy as well as asthma history has played a crucial part in this tough decision-making.

Nabil didn't feature in a any games of the U-19 World Cup in South Africa in 2020 but in the next edition, in West Indies, he made 84 runs in six matches. Nabil, who made his first-class debut for Khulna in 2022, scored 305 runs in seven first-class games. He played his last competitive match during the last edition of Dhaka Premier League when he made 14 runs for Mohammedan Sporting Club against Sheikh Jamal on March 30.

Bethell out of CT, England call up Tom Banton as cover for third ODI

England have added Tom Banton to their squad as cover for the third ODI against India in Ahmedabad. The call-up comes after Jacob Bethell sustained a left hamstring injury during the first ODI in Nagpur, with Jos Buttler confirming in Cuttack that the 21-year-old has been ruled out of Champions Trophy too. "I'm pretty sure (Bethell) has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy, to be honest," Butller said after the second ODI. "That's really disappointing for him. Obviously, he played nicely the other day (in Nagpur) and has been one of the really exciting players. It's a shame that injury is going to rule him out."

Banton last played an ODI for England in 2020, and has been in red-hot form in the UAE ILT20, leading the run charts with 493 runs at 54.77, including two centuries. He is set to join the squad on Monday.

Tri-series: Rachin unlikely for South Africa ODI

Rachin Ravindra, who sustained a laceration to the forehead after being struck by the ball in New Zealand's ODI tri-series win over Pakistan in Lahore, continues to do "well" according to NZC. "Ravindra passed the initial head injury assessment, and the laceration, which required stitches, was addressed and treated at the ground. He is otherwise well and will continue to be monitored under HIA protocols. He is unlikely to feature in tomorrow's match against South Africa," the board said in a release.

Rachin Ravindra recovering "well" after forehead blow

New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra suffered a laceration to his forehead after sustaining a blow while fielding during Saturday's tri-series ODI opener against Pakistan in Lahore. Ravindra was forced off the field after being struck in the forehead by the ball attempting a catch in the 38th over of Pakistan's chase.

"He sustained a laceration to the forehead which has been addressed and treated at the ground, but is otherwise well. He came through his first Health Impact Assessment well and will continue to be monitored under HIA processes," New Zealand Cricket said in a statement.

Saim Ayub ruled out of Champions Trophy

Pakistan opener Saim Ayub has been officially ruled out of the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 due to his ongoing rehab from a right ankle fracture. Saim is currently undergoing rehab in England.

"Following comprehensive MRI scans, X-rays and medical assessments, Saim had been ruled out for 10 weeks from the date of injury (3 January)," PCB said in a statement on Thursday. Saim's availability for Pakistan's New Zealand tour - which follows the Champions Trophy - is now contingent on him to clearing all fitness tests and medical requirements.

Ireland's Aimee Maguire suspended from bowling in international cricket

Ireland's left-arm spinner Aimee Maguire has been suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect. The 18-year-old was reported by match officials for a suspected bowling action during the first ODI against India in Rajkot on January 10.

In a bowling assessment that she subsequently underwent at the ICC's testing centre in Loughborough, it was revealed that the elbow extension in her bowler action was beyond the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted under the ICC Illegal Bowling Regulations.

Due to this result, she has been immediately suspended from bowling at the highest level. She will continue to remain suspended until there's another official assessment of her bowling action where it is confirmed to be legal.

Sam Konstas heads home from Sri Lanka

Teenage Australian opener Sam Konstas, who missed the selection cut for the first Test in Galle, will be packing his bags for Australia and representing New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield Trophy instead of remaining with the team for the second Test against Sri Lanka.

Travis Head, who was preferred to Konstas to open the batting and maximize runs against the new ball, however expected Konstas to return to the top of the order for the World Test Championship final. "Sam's a big part of where we're going, there's no doubt about it," Head said. "Disappointed that he missed out on the first Test but great for him to be here, great for him to be experiencing conditions. Most likely I'll go back in the middle order and Sam will open."

Suryakumar, Dube to feature for Mumbai in Ranji Quarterfinal

Despite the absence of a few key players due to various reasons, Mumbai have managed to field a strong squad for the Ranji quarterfinal clash against Haryana in Rohtak. Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube, who were part of India's T20I squad in the recent England series, have both been added to the squad. The duo made themselves available after being left out of India's ODI squad against England. Rohit Sharma, who is captaining the national side for the series, is understandably unavailable along with Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal. There are fitness concerns as well with the siblings Sarfaraz and Musheer Khan still recovering from their respective injuries that sees them not being picked. Pacer Tushar Deshpande is also struggling with injury and hasn't made the cut. Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw continues to be overlooked for selection.

Squad:Ajinkya Rahane, Ayush Mhatre, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Amogh Bhatkal, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Tamore, Akash Anand, Shardul Thakur, Shams Mulani, Siddhesh Lad, Suryansh Shedge, Tanush Kotian, Mohit Awasthi, Sylvester Dsouza, Royston Dias, Atharva Ankolekar, Harsh Tanna.

Bevan inducted into Australian Cricket Hall of Fame

Michael Bevan has been inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame, being the third inductee this year following Michael Clarke and Christina Matthews. Bevan is also the first player to be inducted since the change in the governing criteria earlier this year.

Bevan, a fearsome finisher in his day, was one of Australia's greatest white-ball players. Bevan scored 6,912 runs across 232 ODIs at an average of 53.58 for Australia. His average was also the highest by any batter in ODIs at the time of his retirement in January 2007. He was also part of the winning teams of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 1999 and 2003.

The 54-year-old is best remembered for his 78 at the SCG against the West Indies in 1996, rescuing Australia from 38 for 6 to take them home with a four off the final ball to chase down 173 with a wicket to spare.

Bevan is the 66th inductee into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame.
