England smash their way to 3-0 series win

England's domination over West Indies culminated in a whitewash as they finished with a 3-0 scoreline in the ODI series having done the same in the preceding T20Is. In a rain-curtailed third ODI in Taunton, which was reduced to 21 overs-a-side, England restricted West Indies to 106/8 before taking only 10.5 overs to reach the DLS revised target of 106 with nine wickets in hand.

Asked to bat, West Indies found themselves in early trouble as Em Arlott and Kate Cross bagged three wickets between them inside the first four overs. Shemaine Campbelle and Qiana Joseph led West Indies' recovery with some much-needed boundaries before a rain interruption forced overs to be reduced. West Indies were 43/3 in the 12th over when the players left the field and upon resumption, they lost quick wickets and slipped to 46/5 and then 58/6 after Jannillea Glasgow was dismissed after striking two fours. The big over that West Indies were hoping for came in the 20th when Aaliyah Alleyne clubbed five fours off Lauren Filer. Jahzara Claxton's four and a six off Sarah Glenn in the final over helped West Indies past the 100-run mark.

England were off the blocks quickly in the chase, with Sophia Dunkley's 21-ball 26 powering their start. She struck four boundaries during her stay and scored bulk of the runs in a 40-run stand with Sciver-Brunt before being dismissed by Karishma Ramharack. Sciver-Brunt and Alice Capsey continued the positive batting, dealing in regular boundaries. They included three fours apiece in overs off Ramharack and Ashmini Munisar as Sciver-Brunt finished with an unbeaten 57 off 33, with nine boundaries, to take England home in the 11th over.

Following a clean sweep in the T20I series, England continued their dominance by clinching the ODI series with a commanding 143-run win over West Indies in the second ODI. Opting to bat first at Grace Road, England's innings bore a striking resemblance to theirs in the first ODI with both openers, Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont, notching up centuries again. Like in the first game, Jones was the aggressor and struck as many as 20 boundaries en route to a 98-ball 129 making her partner's 109-ball 106 look rather modest in comparison. Their 202-run stand was finally broken when Jones smacked one straight back to Karishma Ramharack. It spelled little respite for the visitors though as Emma Lamb, who missed out in the first game, scored a breezy 45-ball 55. Quickfire cameos from Sophia Dunkley (31 off 19) and Alice Capsey (16 off 13) saw England ascend to 366/6 despite losing wickets regularly after the mammoth opening stand.

Skipper Hayley Matthews' absence due to injury was felt more strongly during the West Indies' response. While debutant Realeanna Grimmond, who replaced Matthews at the top of the order, impressed with a half-century (53 off 72), contributions throughout the rest of the order remained meek barring an entertaining 24-ball 44 from Jannillea Glasgow. Defending such a massive total, England never felt any pressure, with wickets tumbling at regular intervals. The West Indies were bundled out for 223 in 45.4 overs. England used six bowlers with each picking up at least one wicket. Among them, Alice Capsey had the best figures with 3/41 from her 8.4 overs.

Tammy Beaumont's record-equalling 11th ODI hundred and Amy Jones' maiden, in her return back to the opening slot, set up England's massive 108-run victory over West Indies in the three-match ODI series opener in Derby on Friday. Opting to bat, the English openers put on a fantastic 222-run stand to frustrate the visitors and set a solid platform for their side that helped absorb the mini collapse of 3 for 24 that ensued. Nat Sciver-Brunt, however, posted a quickfire 52 off just 36 deliveries to push England's total to 345 before departing in the penultimate over.

In reply, West Indies started well through a 91-run opening stand between skipper Hayley Matthews (48 off 47 balls) and Qiana Joseph (62 off 74) but lost the plot soon after. Linsey Smith ran through the middle and lower order to register a fifer on ODI debut - 5 for 36 - that kept the visitors to 237 only despite Aaliyah Alleyne's brisk 44 at the backend. After four games across formats, West Indies remain winless so far on this tour of England.

May 26

Despite an all-round show from West Indies skipper, Hayley Matthews, England completed a clean sweep of the three-match T20I series. Matthews top scored with 71 in a chase of 144 but once she fell in the 18th over, it ended West Indies' hopes as they fell 17 runs short eventually. Matthews had waged a lone battle till then, witnessing her partners fall at regular intervals. A 46-run stand with Shabika Gajnabi for the fourth wicket was the best West Indies could muster in the chase. A double strike by Linsey Smith in the 17th over heralded the turnaround with Matthews following suit soon after.

Earlier, the West Indian captain had picked up three wickets to restrict England to 144. Matthews had added to Zaida James' early strike with the ball to reduce England to 21 for 2. But Nat-Sciver Brunt and Heather Knight steadied the ship with a 48-run stand. Knight who finished with an unbeaten 66 helped England to a total that was more than enough in the end.

May 23

England vs West Indies, 2nd T20I

Lauren Bell and Em Arlott struck thrice each as West Indies were limited to 81/9, a total which was overhauled with 64 balls to spare by England, courtesy Nat Sciver-Brunt's unbeaten 55. England won the second T20I by 9-wickets to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Put in to bat, West Indies were pushed on the backfoot early courtesy Arlott's triple strike, which left the visitors reeling at 29 for 4 within the powerplay. Shemaine Campbelle and Shabika Gajnabi steadied the innings briefly with a 34-run stand, but West Indies could never pick up the scoring rate. Charlie Dean and Bell bagged two wickets apiece thereafter to ensure the total remained well below par.

In response, England lost the wicket of Danni Wyatt-Hodge in the first ball of the chase, cleaned up by Zaida James. However, Sciver-Brunt and Sophia Dunkley ensured little trouble in the run chase. Sciver-Brunt struck 10 boundaries in her 30-ball stay en route to her 17th T20I half-century.

May 22

England vs West Indies, 1st T20I

Amidst a dramatic batting collapse, skipper Hayley Matthews shone again with her third T20I century, but it was all in vain as England thumped West Indies by 8 wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Matthews single-handedly held the innings together with her 67-ball century off the last ball of the innings. The next best individual score was Mandy Mangru's 17 as West Indies could muster only 147 as a result.

Sophia Dunkley (81* off 56) and Heather Knight (43* of 27) put a 94-run stand in reply to sail through the chase. Dunkley, en route to her career-best innings, put on a 51-run opening stand with Danielle Wyatt-Hodge to lay the platform for the chase in the PowerPlay. She lost her fellow opener and new skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt in quick succession but found an able ally in Knight to take England home with 21 balls to spare.
