Consolation win for CSK

Aided by a fantastic spell of bowling from Albie Morkel and Doug Bollinger and then some sensible and solid batting from the middle order, the Chennai Super Kings overhauled a moderate 140 set by Yorkshire and came out triumphant by 4 wickets with an over to spare. Earlier, CSK won the toss and elected to field first. Yorkshire made one change to their side with David Miller coming in for the injured Phil Jaques. Both the teams were playing for pride. Andrew Gale and Adam Lyth got off to a brisk start, rotating the strike and picking up the odd boundaries. Ashwin went for 15 in the 3rd over. Gale got stuck into Bollinger and Hilfenhaus and smashed them for a couple of sixes. Albie Morkel was introduced in the 5th over and struck with his first delivery getting rid of the dangerous Andrew Gale for 23 off 22 deliveries. Yorkshire had moved to 35 for 1 after 5.1 overs. They were given a double blow when Hilfenhaus dismissed Lyth off the first ball of the next over with the southpaw holding out to mid off trying to up the ante. Albie Morkel picked up his 2nd getting Root caught by Saha down the leg side. Yorkshire had lost 3 wickets in 3 overs. Morkel was in the midst of a fantastic spell and had conceded just 3 runs off his 2 overs. Gary Ballance and David Miller began the resurrection process. Raina went for 12 in the 11th over. Morkel finished his spell, giving away just 12 off his 4 overs. Jadeja was hammered for 2 massive sixes in the 13th. The pair brought up the 50 partnership off just 40 balls. Dhoni introduced himself for the 15th over and gave away 7 runs. Yorkshire reached triple figures in the 16th over. Ballance slashed Dhoni over point for a six and then slogged him over deep mid-wicket for the maximum off consecutive deliveries in the 17th over. Doug Bollinger ended a splendid 78 run stand off just 56 deliveries between Gary Ballance and David Miller getting rid of the latter for a well-made 28 off 26 balls - conceding just 2 of the 18th over. Yorkshire had moved to 122 for 4. Ballance thumped Ben Hilfenhaus for 2 massive sixes in the 19th - 15 came off the over. Bollinger bowled an excellent last over conceding a mere 3 runs and picking up a wicket of the last ball. He finished his spell giving away 16 runs off his 4 overs and picking up 2 wickets. Yorkshire ended with a moderate 140 for 6 off their allotted 20 overs. Steven Patterson got rid of the dangerous Faf du Plessis for 1 to give Yorkshire the perfect start. Vijay attacked Wardlaw picking up 2 boundaries in the 3rd. Raina lofted Patterson over long-off for a majestic six to end the fourth. Vijay got a bit too ambitious and held out to square leg off the bowling of Dalby. CSK had moved to 37 for 2 after 6. Raina and Badrinath steadied the ship, picking up the singles and twos and got the occasional boundary. They had put on a sturdy 48 run-stand for the 3rd wicket when Dalby removed Raina with a slower ball. CSK had moved to 82 for 3 after 13. 59 were now needed off the final 7. Dalby had conceded just 11 runs off his 3 overs and picked up 2 wickets. Badrinath took the attack to the bowler and walloped him for 2 fours in the over - Dalby's 4th went for 12. Dhoni heaved Rashid for a six in the next - the 15th resulting in 14 runs. 33 were needed off 30 balls. Badrinath departed for a well compiled 47 off 38 deliveries. He, along with Dhoni had put on a 43 run-stand (off just 31 deliveries) for the 4th wicket and ensured CSK were on their path to a comfortable win. A few more lusty blows from Dhoni (who was finally dismissed for 31 off 23 deliveries) sealed the match for the CSK. They lost a few wickets at the end but had done enough to get home by 4 wickets with an over to spare. Badrinath was declared the man of the match. The CSK finished 3rd in Group B while Yorkshire who lost all their matches took the wooden spoon.
