IPL, 2016 Live Cricket Score of Kings XI Punjab vs Delhi Daredevils, 36th Match

If Hyderabad v Bangalore was the South Indian derby, this is the North Indian Derby. Punjab and Delhi - two teams that couldn't have enjoyed a more contrasting tournament thus far. The former has been languishing at the bottom of the table while Delhi are playing with the big boys in the top half of the table. Delhi will want to put the defeat in their last game down to an aberration while KXIP will play for pride. Welcome to Match 36 of the IPL.

Marcus Stoinies, for all the poor running between the wickets early in the innings, recovered admirably to compile a half-century. Unfortunately, immediately after completing the half-century, he lofts one in the air off Zaheer and is caught. Good catch. Good partnership. Saha is going strong and now is as good a time as any for Glenn Maxwell to come out and accelerate proceedings.Not the worst thing to happen, one would reckon.

After a failed attempt to rest key players, Delhi Daredevils will be expected to bring back key players - Quinton de Kock and Co. Captain Zaheer Khan is likely to come back as well. No funky team changes this time around for Delhi Daredevils, who win toss and elect to bowl. Zaheer Khan returns, as do Chris Morris and Quinton de Kock. JP Duminy has to sit this one out. Sam Billings was brilliant last game, so he gets another game. Punjab bring in their latest import - Hashim Amla. He'll be summoned into action straight away.

Vijay: "Looking forward for this game. The boys are up for it. We have got a couple of changes in our side. Amla debuts for us, Cariappa is back. Swapnil Singh and Manan Vohra aren't playing today."

Zaheer: "We are bowling first. This pitch should get better as the game goes. It's always good to know what we are chasing. I'm back. Morris and QDK come back. Tahir, Duminy, Jayant Yadav and Negi are out."

And Murali Vijay falls after another breezy innings at the top. Morris has been off his game and this is a length delivery that Vijay should have ideally put away. His flick however finds Carlos Brathwaite at mid-wicket. End go of a promising innings. Should be converting one of these starts into a big one. Has scored big centuries for Chennai Super Kings but hasn't been able to do the same since.

In comes the mighty Hash, for the first time in IPL history.

What did Amla and Stoinis have during that time-out? They tried three times to get run-out, Delhi didn't oblige and then finally on the fourth attempt, Zaheer Khan had enough and fired in a decent throw to QDK, who knocked off the bails to catch the South African short of his crease. 1 off 5 for the stylish right-hander on debut. Delhi back in this.

The closest thing to this running between the wicket was between Gambhir and Yuvraj during the 2011 World Cup quarterfinal. Let me see if I can source that video.

After losing those two quick wickets just after the powerplay, Stoinis and Saha have done really well. The boundaries have come at regular intervals but most importantly, the running between the wickets has been exemplary.

Oh, Delhi coming back Sahahere. Two quick wickets that could end up denying the hosts the final flourish. Maxwell is the first to fall as he misses a Chris Morris full toss, attempting a fancy shot over short-fine and gets out bowled. Saha falls in the next over when he slices a length delivery from Shami straight to mid off. Losing momentum here. Can Miller and Axar take them to 180?

Wriddhiman Saha completes a 29-ball half-century. He has been promoted above both Maxwell and Miller and the promotion is justified. He's timed everything today. The odd lapse has been compensated by Delhi's abject fielding.

This is now their best score of IPL 2016. Good start, wobble, recovery, accelaration, wobble, good finish - that was the story of the Punjab innings. After Saha and Maxwell fell in succession, Axar tonked a few to propel the hosts to 181. Good score. But will it be enough?

Delhi's openers have a rather sedate start but move through the gears rather seamlessly in the poowerplay. Quinton de Kock is the destroyer-in-chief. He scores two boundaries off Stoinis but the momentum shift comes in Axar Patel's first over, the last of the powerplay. De Kock takes a couple of twos and then follows it up with a six and a four. Effortlessly done and that's 51 off the powerplay.

Quinton de Kock goes bang, bang, bang... completes a 27-ball half-century. But just when it's time to put his head down and power through he falls to Stoinis slower ball. A superb innings of 52, the kind that can alter the course of a game. In-form Karun Nair and Sanju Samson now rebuilding the Punjab innings.

That was an exhibition in death bowling by the Mohit, Sandeep and Stoinis. They executed the yorkers at will and beautifully mixed it up with those slower deliveries. Delhi will wonder how they lost that one after the start de Kock provided. A 30-ball 50. Samson and Nair were steady but the middle order struggled. Only 44 runs came off the final six overs. That's the game right there. Credit also to the team's batsmen for notching up a score in excess of 180. So Murali Vijay's captaincy stint has seen two wins and a narrow defeat. They stay alive in the tournament. Just about...

Kings XI Punjab strike again at a critical moment in the match as Sanju Samson goes hungry for more after striking three consecutive boundaries. Delhi Daredevils lose their second wicket and despite a good start are still far from comfortable in the chase.

Just 14 runs in the last three overs. KXIP are back and how! Stoinis gives away just four runs off his over and more importantly stifles Sam Billings, eventually getting him out with a slower delivery. So this match has come alive. 40 to get off the final three. Morris and Brathwaite in the middle for Delhi.

Carlos Brathwaite smokes a trademark six over long on off Sandeep Sharma in the next over but an attempt to clear the ropes again costs his wicket.

Kings XI very much still in the game. Mohit Sharma should have had Nair in the last over but Cariappa accounts for him in the very next over. Nair attempts the big shot and ends up getting more height than distance. David Miller completes a good catch at long off to atone for his drop in the previous over. The equation has changed, KXIP have fought back admirably.
