'Disappointed' Ramdin eager to work his way back from regional four-day set-up

Denesh Ramdin, the West Indies wicketkeeper-batsman, has noted that he has no other option, but to agree with the selection panel's apparent decision to not pick him for the four-match Test series against India, starting on July 21 in Antigua.

The squad for the upcoming Test series has not yet been announced. However, Ramdin had earlier slammed Courtney Browne, the new selection panel's chairman, by revealing that the former wicketkeeper-batsman had told the Trinidadian that he won't be picked for the series against India. Ramdin further added that he was asked to take part in West Indies' premier four-day competition in order to make a comeback into the Test side.

"I haven't felt any pressure for the last three or four years," Ramdin told a Jamaican radio station on Friday (July 8). "I felt a bit surprised, but I have no choice but to live by the decision of the higher authority. I don't own cricket, and, well, I have to go back to my game in the regional four day-set up and come again.

"It seems like I'm not a senior player who has done well over the years. However, I've been down that road before and come back and done very well, so I think the process is easy," he said.

Ramdin also divulged what transpired in the meeting with Browne. "The chairman called me and he explained to me I would no longer be in the four-match Test series coming up against India.He said over the past five-six years my averages haven't been where they should be as a Test player, so they need someone else to fill that position and do well for the West Indies.

"I'm pretty disappointed with it; any player would be disappointed. That was said to me that I have to get back in the four-day regional set up and score runs again."

Ramdin netted in a couple of fifties during West Indies' disastrous tour of Australia, where they lost 2-0. He has aggregated 2,898 runs in 74 Test at an average of 25.87. The Trinidadian has also effected 217 dismissals in his career.
