Ahlawat scales 300 summit in T20 cricket

It could be a local Twenty20 tournament but runs are runs, in whichever manner they come and against whosoever. Delhi's Lalita Park has earned overnight fame following a not-so-household name's gargantuan achievement. Mohit Ahlawat, Delhi's 21-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman, who made his first-class debut in the 2015 season against Rajasthan, cracked an incredible 300* in a Twenty20 game, playing for Maavi XI against Friend's XI on Tuesday (February 7).

The mindboggling feat that was achieved in just 72 balls was garlanded with as many as 39 sixes and 14 fours. Ahlawat was on 250 by the end of 18 overs, and by amassing 50 in the last two overs, he brought up the first ever triple ton of the shortest format of the game, across any level. While hitting 34 in the final over, the keeper-batsman smashed five sixes off the last five deliveries of the contest, lifting his side to an improbable 416.

Club cricket aside, the highest individual score in T20 cricket is held by the West Indian star batsman Chris Gayle. The burly southpaw had garnered 175 runs in an Indian Premier League (IPL) contest for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors India in the 2013 edition.

In T20Is, Aaron Finch holds the record for the highest individual score with his knock of 156, which came against England in 2013. Ahlawat, who on Tuesday went past that figure rather seamlessly, has played three first-class matches thus far for his state side.
