Darren Bravo eligible for selection following apology

There's always something enthralling about Windies cricket; on the field or off the field. The latest of those should brim the Caribbean fans for Darren Bravo, as confirmed by Cricket Windies (CWI), will be available for selection across all formats with immediate effect.

"Darren is a senior cricketer who has been a valuable part of the Windies set up for a long time, and I would hope to see his game continue to progress and mature, at both regional and international level," Dave Cameron, the president of Windies cricket, said on Thursday (14 July).

Cameron has also apologized for his "misstatement" during one of his TV interviews, in November 2016, which later fuelled a Twitter outrage from the younger Bravo.

"In early November 2016, I gave an interview to SportsMax TV during which I discussed player retainer contracts and the grades of contract that had been awarded to certain players. In the course of the interview I stated that Darren Bravo had previously been on an 'A' contract, which I have since been advised is not correct. I apologize for the misstatement, and wish to assure Mr. Bravo that there was no insult or offense intended towards him," he noted.

In response Bravo also admitted that his actions were "inappropriate" and apologized, to the Preisdent of CWI and all the fans, for the same. "I tweeted a response which referred to the President which was, inretrospect, inappropriate. As I have always tried to uphold the best traditions of West Indies Cricket and its players, I now therefore wish to withdraw the comment made on my Twitter account and apologize to the President of CWI and to all Windies fans."

Cricket West Indies Chairman of selectors Courtney Browne, has also welcomed the resolution, but clarified that Bravo's inclusion will depend on "the cricket that he is playing."

"For us I think everybody in the Caribbean is happy that there has been a solution and for us as selection panel we can only hope that to welcome Darren back into the fold as soon as we possibly can obviously it depends on cricket that he is playing. We all at cricket West Indies are pretty happy that is finally over," Browne mentioned.

Bravo hasn't played any international cricket since November 2016, and this move will only boost a relatively inexperienced Windies side. He last played a Test match against Pakistan in Sharjah where he mustered a total of 14 runs in two innings.
