Both the World T20 finalists - Australia and England - have a well-organized domestic T20 competitions in their backyard and together, they played nearly 400 T20I games. The next best? South Africa with around 200 odd games. Thanks to Lisa Sthalekar for that amazing stat. Should give you a fair idea about how things stand in certain parts of the globe. Can the remaining nations take a cue from that, for cricket's sake? Also this will be the last time you'll be seeing World T20. 16 days 23 games one winner! That's what the World tournaments are all about. The best just finds a way. Australia were absolutely hammered last week by India and surely they might have had a sleepless night after what they incurred. And tonight will be another sleepless night, albeit, on a different note. The best are those who find a way to overcome tough situations and look no beyond Australia! It hasn't been a great 18 months for them and this trophy will surely rev up some fond memories among the ever-jubilant Aussie fans. Well done Australia, you thoroughly deserved it.

Sir Vivian Richards passes on the trophy to Lanning as a chorus of 'yayyyyyy' along with the fireworks go up in unison. Lanning holds it one-handed as the rest of the troops get busy collecting Champagnes. Champions hoarding poses now. They disperse for a fleeting moment only to gather back in groups to click some selfies. Absolute scenes!! The England cricketers head towards the England support group in the stands. Lots of warm hugs and pats on the back for them. Natasha Farrant looks the toughest to console, she keeps weeping while hugging onto her parents. Sigh!

Meg Lanning, winning skipper: We probably didn't have our best day in the field. It was great. Wareham was great with the direct hit and her control with the ball was excellent. I thought it was pad first and I called for it (about the review). We obviously didn't have the success we would have liked in the last couple of years. I think this is a very satisfying win. We knew we could change a few things and we are a very calm group and I think we showed that tonight. The girls have been outstanding and the support staff has been excellent. I also want to thank the Aussie crew here. My mum and dad's here, can't be happier. Last couple of World Cups haven't gone our way and this is really satisfying.

Heather Knight, losing skipper: I thought it was a much better pitch than the semi final. It skidded on a lot more. Dani started really well. We just lost wickets at the key time and we lost momentum and we didn't put a competitive total on the board. We thought there will be bit of dew but it skidded on more than what we anticipated. We didn't probably adapt to the conditions as good as we could have. Really proud of the girls for reaching the final. Australia were a better team than us today, congratulations to them. In terms of average and the wickets we've lost we surely didn't get it right. We came with some inexperience and the girls stepped up beautifully. Really great experience for the girls and the fans have been amazing. They are still singing and dancing, they've been our source of support. We got massive Ashes series to look forward to.

Alyssa Healy [hands down] Player of the tournament, she's got four Player of the Match awards too: She collects her trophy from the legendary Sir Vivian Richards. "Lucky I got my golf bag so that I can put some extra stuff. The girls played beautifully tonight. Really proud. A team effort. I've just really enjoyed the freedom at the top and play some fearless cricket. Looking forward to play in the BigBash and see if I can continue. Very special. We worked really hard to build on that culture. With the group's that we've got there's many more to come. (Winning World T20) 2010 is still my favourite, but this one might top it. It's an amazing place to tour and the people here are really friendly. It's a fun place to tour."

Ashleigh Gardner, Player of the Match: I'm not gonna drop it (chuckles). Obviously lot of nerves, but we had a lot of confidence coming into this game. I was trying to bowl into the wicket and all our bowlers did the job today. I didn't have the tournament I probably would have liked and fortunately today it came off. I was seeing okay and as soon as the bowler tosses it up I knew that this was the one. Pretty amazing feeling.

Delissa Kimmince: Pretty emotional to be honest. My journey has been very up and down so to make the starting XI is very emotional and very exciting. I used to go to the park with my dad and now to play on the world stage is amazing. Didn't really get a good sleep in. A long day, and it's time to reflect on my journey as well. I'd like to thank my family and friends and all the coaches I've had along the way. To my mum and dad, I know you're watching back home and I thank you guys.

Beth Mooney: Yeah, we've done well in the whole tournbament. Consistent and clinical. The bowlers were good, backed up by the batsmen and especially Gardner was fantastic hitting out in the end - awesome to watch from the sideline. It's important to go out there and play our game, and we complement each other really well in this team. Nice to go out there and playing with freedom, knowing we have players like Meg et al coming in at 4,5 and 6. It's been an amazing journey for Australian cricket. A lot of support from the public back home.

Georgia Wareham: It's pretty unreal. Hasn't sunk in as yet, but yeah I'm gonna enjoy tonight. We were counting down the runs but we knew we would get over the line. It's been enormous for me to get a chance to perform on the world stage. The plan's to party all night right now!

Megan Schutt: Pretty happy, I am trying to hold back my tears. It's pretty hard to hear Meg out there but it's a good distraction to have. I love noise so good crowd works for me. I was little bit of nervous bowling with the wet ball but they changed it at the right team.

Alyssa Healy: I'm really enjoying playing with some freedom. The batting lineup we have right now is unbelievable, so we're happy we've played so well over the last few weeks.

Ellyse Perry: Really special feeling. This has been a long 24 months. We have worked very hard. We have had so much fun. Everyone contributed and we enjoyed as a team. Hopefully, we will inspire young boys and young girls back home. It's been a huge pleasure to take the challenge. We have improved our game. It's been a wonderful journey of us. We have really enjoyed it a lot.

22:44 local: Fair to say England were no match for Australia. The other night, there was a lot of outrage about the non-selection of Mithali for the crucial semi-final clash and today that trend might get displaced with Heather Knight's decision to bat first on a ground that's been engulfed with dew all game and. Evidently, it got worse in the second innings. England's gun bowler Anya Shrubsole conceded three boundaries in the second over of the chase and one could notice the frustration on her face as she failed to get a decent grip on the ball and the landing area only made it worse. From that point, England were clearly behind the eight ball and despite Alyssa Healy's rare failure Australia - just like Lanning mentioned during toss - had the composure to cross the finish line and seemed 'driven to win this contest.'
