CPL 2021: Team of the tournament

Evin Lewis (St Kitts and Nevis Patriots)

Runs 420 || Avg 52.5 || SR 164.7

No one has scored more runs or hit more sixes than Evin Lewis in CPL 2021. It's been a dominating display from the left-hander so far this season and his scintillating form has guided St Kitts and Nevis Patriots into the final. He will go into the final having scored 179 runs in his last two innings without being dismissed including the unbeaten 77 in the semi-final against Trinbago Knight Riders. In total, Lewis has hit 38 sixes so far in the tournament, 13 more than the second best.

Kennar Lewis (Jamaica Tallawahs)

Runs 262 || Avg 26.2 || SR 164.77

More than half the runs in Kennar Lewis' T20 career came in this edition of the CPL. Even though the big runs didn't come from his bat at the top of the order on a very consistent basis, he still gave Jamaica Tallawahs the ideal platform with some blistering displays. No one scored runs at a quicker rate than Kennar amongst the top 10 run-getters this season. He was easily Tallawahs' best player in a campaign that ended on a disappointing note.

Roston Chase(Saint Lucia Kings)

Roston Chase was easily the surprise package of CPL 2021. The transformation was quite staggering to an extent that he even received a call-up to the West Indies squad for the T20 World Cup having never played an international game in this format. For most part of the tournament, Chase was leading the run charts and eventually ended up with more than 400 runs at a stunning average and strike rate. He was effective with the ball as well picking up nine wickets at an economy rate of just 7.

Nicholas Pooran (Guyana Amazon Warriors) (Wicketkeeper)

Runs 263 || Avg 32.87 || SR 163.35

The dashing keeper-batsman managed to regain some of his old touch in this edition and that would definitely give him a lot of confidence to turn his fortunes around in the IPL as well next week. Pooran consistently provided the impetus in the middle order for his side but never managed to kick on and get a big score before finally smashing an unbeaten 75 against Jamaica Tallawahs. The Guyana Amazon Warriors skipper again made an ominous start to his innings in the semi-final racing to 26 off just 13 balls but his dismissal triggered a collapse following which his side got knocked out.

Kieron Pollard(Trinbago Knight Riders)(Captain)

Kieron Pollard continued to shine with the bat with his purple patch extending into the tournament. The Trinbago Knight Riders skipper took up responsibility as the finisher on more than one occasion and ended up fetching more than 20 sixes. After smashing a 20-ball 50 in the last league game, he took off again in a tall chase in the semi-final hitting three sixes but his dismissal at a crucial juncture ended TKR's amazing run in the competition.

Tim David (Saint Lucia Kings)

Runs 272 || Avg 38.85 || SR 148.63

For a player who batted at 6 on most occasions, Tim David did exceedingly well to break into the top five run getters this season. He generated a lot of interest recently after fetching an IPL contract and he showcased why by playing a pivotal role in Saint Lucia Kings' run to the final. Consistently churning out top performances as the finisher, David delivered in the semi-final as well with an unbeaten 38 off just 17 balls that pretty much proved to be the difference in the end with TKR falling short by just 21 runs.

Sunil Narine(Trinbago Knight Riders)

Wickets 12 || Avg 14.58 || ER 4.37

Sunil Narine may have missed the cut for the World Cup but he definitely did his bit to perfection in the CPL for the defending champions. The veteran finished the tournament with a jaw-dropping economy rate of 4.37 - easily the best in this edition. In the semi-final where the opposition scored over 200, Narine finished with figures of 1/12 and stood tall. With the bat, he ended up making decent contributions while batting in different positions but was not at his belligerent best.

Odean Smith(Guyana Amazon Warriors)

Wickets 18 || Avg 14.88 || ER 7.54

The ideal 7/8 in T20 cricket, Odean Smith lit up the CPL with some eye-catching performances that can surely catapult him back into the national side. Smith used his long handle to good effect striking some mighty blows lower down the order and formed a lethal bowling partnership with Romario Shepherd. Both the pacers ended up picking 18 wickets each and were the architects behind Guyana Amazon Warriors' run to the semi-final.

Romario Shepherd(Guyana Amazon Warriors)

Wickets 18 || Avg 14.11 || ER 7.69

Another player who impressed this season was Romario Shepherd, who can also strike some lusty blows lower down the order. With the ball, he ended up picking three wickets on five occasions out of the nine games he played. No wonder Guyana lost the semi-final where he ended up having a dull outing. Shepherd came up with one of the best allround performances in T20 cricket in this edition where he rescued his side with a stunning 72* off 31 balls when they were 75/7 before coming back to pick up three wickets with the ball.

Akeal Hosein(Trinbago Knight Riders)

Wickets 13 || Avg 15.92 || ER 4.92

On six occasions this season, Akeal Hosein ended up conceding less than 20 runs in a game. If Odean Smith and Romario Shepherd combined together for Guyana, it was the spin partnership of Hosein and Narine that did the bulk of the damage for TKR. Like Narine, Hosein too finished with an economy rate of less than 5 despite sending down a few overs in the powerplay.

Ravi Rampaul (Trinbago Knight Riders)

Wickets 19 || Avg 16.21 || ER 7.96

By the time the T20 World Cup kicks off next month, Ravi Rampaul will be 37. But that hasn't slowed him down as he fought his way back into the national side for the showpiece event courtesy of some eye-catching performances. Rampaul with 19 wickets has finished the season as its leading wicket-taker. Effective in almost every game, Rampaul's only lacklustre performance came in the semi-final where he conceded 56 runs which eventually resulted in his side's ouster.
