Bengal crush Karnataka to make quarterfinal entry

Defending champions - Tamil Nadu - defeated Punjab by seven wickets and gained an entry into the quarterfinal. N Jagadeesan (67) and Vijay Shankar (59*) were the mainstays of TN's batting effort while Sandeep Warrier bagged a couple of wickets. On the other hand, Gukeerat Singh top-scored for Punjab with 43. Maharashtra is the other team to qualify from the group and they will play in the preliminary quarter-finals.
Group B
Mumbai crushed Baroda by 82 runs but that turned out to be a consolation win as they bowed out of the tournament. Mumbai finished with 193 while Baroda crawled to 111 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs. For Mumbai, Tanush Kotian made an impression by bagging four wickets while Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane scored fifties.
Bengal achieved a comfortable seven-wicket win over Karnataka to top their group and qualify for the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, Karnataka, who finished second in the group, will play in the pre-quarterfinals. Abhimanyu Easwaran's fifty and Mukesh Kumar's three-for were the cornerstones of Bengal's win. Kaif Ahmed (34*) also played his part in Bengal's victory. On the other hand, Karun Nair topped the batting chart for Karnataka with 44.
Group C
Deepak Hooda's 47-ball 75, alongside Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Mohit Jain's incisive bowling paved the way for Rajasthan to beat Haryana by 30 runs and gain an entry into the quarterfinals. For Haryana, Chaitanya Bishnoi accumulated a useful 41 while Sumit Kumar was the best bowler on show and scalped a couple of wickets. Himachal Pradesh is the other team to progress to the next stage from this group.
Ishank Jaggi, Virat Singh, Kaushal Singh and Saurabh Tiwary all played vital hands to help Jharkhand usurp Jammu and Kashmir by five wickets in Vadodara. Jharkhand hunted down the target of 157 with four balls to spare. For Jammu and Kashmir, Jatin Wadhwan top-scored with 45 while Utkarsh Singh bagged a couple of wickets for the cost of 22 runs. Interestingly, the tearaway, Umran Malik - with six wickets in the tournament- wasn't a part of the XI today. Both teams couldn't make it to the next round.
Group D
On the back of a game-turning, unbeaten 110-run stand between Sachin Baby and Sanju Samson, Kerala powered past Madhya Pradesh, which in turn piloted them to the preliminary quarter-final. Incidentally, MP's NRR was better but Kerala made it to the next round on the basis of the head-to-head rule. Kerala overhauled the total of 171 in the 18th over. At 62 for 2, in the ninth over, Kerala seemed to be a in a spot of bother. However, the pair of Baby and Samson played with freedom - cracking six sixes between them - and provided the finishing touches. For MP, Rajat Patidar's 49-ball 77 had propelled the side to a competitive total.
Tejas Patel took three wickets and Het Patel composed a valuable 45 to help Gujarat pip Bihar by five wickets and with five balls to spare. Bihar could amass only 118 in their allotted overs with Mangal Mahrour compiling a valiant unbeaten fifty. Gujarat topped their group to qualify for the quarter-finals.
Saurashtra v Delhi
In a hard-fought Group E game in Rohtak, Saurashtra downed Delhi by 13 runs and booked their place in the preliminary quarter-final. Sheldon Jackson, who has been in fine form, composed a 47-ball undefeated 79 to power Saurashtra to 166 in their allotted 20 overs. Meanwhile, Shivakant Vashisit bagged a couple of wickets. In pursuit of a competitive target, Dhruv Shorey, Anuj Rawat, Nitish and Lalit Yadav made useful contributions but none of them could convert starts into substantial scores as Delhi finished with 153 for 5.
Tanmay Agarwal's brisk 62 and Nagaraj Sanketh's five-wicket haul proved to be the difference between Hyderabad and Uttar Pradesh as the former progressed to the quarter-finals. Bavanaka Sandeep (two wickets) and Rahul Buddhi (29-ball 38) also played crucial roles in the win. On the other hand, Akshdeep Nath top-scored for UP with 36.
Vidarbha v Sikkim
In the Plate Group, Vidarbha continued their march with a resounding 130-run victory against Sikkim and progressed to the preliminary quarter-final. Jitesh Sharma was the star performer with the bat (20-ball 54) while Akshay Karnewar bagged four wickets for the cost of just five runs and ended up with a hat-trick. The same bowler had returned figures of 4-4-0-2 on Monday.
Liyan Khan, at the top of the order, showed some resistance (36-ball 30) but he had too much to do as Sikkim slipped to 75 for 8 in 20 overs. Vidarbha won all their games in the group.
