Joey Evison stars as Kent lift One-Day Cup

Kent broke out of eight successive final defeats and won their first List A title since 1978, with a 21-run win over Lancashire in the One-Day Cup final at Trent Bridge.

Joey Evison, who is only 20-years-old and on loan from Nottinghamshire, starred with 97 and 2-34 in an all-round show at his homeground. It was Evison who bowled Liam Hurt and dramatically sealed the victory by bowling out Lancashire for 285 in a chase of 307.

Opting to bat first, Kent lost their opener Ben Compton for four-ball duck but Evison first added 79 with Oliver Robinson and then 133 for the third wicket with captain Joe Denly (78). Tom Bailey and Liam Hurt finished with two wickets each but despite Evison falling short of a ton (castled by a slower one from Danny Lamb), Kent had a total of over 300 on the board in the final. Darren Stevens, who perhaps made his last appearance for Kent, scored 33* off 31.

Lancashire got off to a quick start in reply, adding 40 runs in only 4.3 overs before Luke Wells was caught and bowled by Grant Stewart. Keaton Jennings held one end up with 72 off 62 but Josh Bohannon at No. 3 played 21 balls for only five runs and sucked the momentum out of the innings. Even Steven Croft's 72 off 83 wasn't enough in a tall chase on the night as Stewart (3 for 42) and Nathan Gilchrist (3 for 65) kept ticking the wickets off and bowled the opposition out in 48.4 overs.
