Record Sutherland double powers Australia to highest Test total

Annabel Sutherland smashed a stroke-filled 210 in the ongoing Test against South Africa Women at the WACA, Perth, helping Australia register the highest-ever team total in Women's Tests. Here are all the key records that tumbled across the first two days' play:

575/9 by Australia is now the highest ever team innings score in Women's Tests, and the fifth in excess of 500 in the format's history. Interestingly, all of them have been scored by the team batting second.

4.58 runs per over is the highest innings run-rate in Women's Test for a minimum score of 250 (163 instances in all).

81 boundaries struck by Australia during their innings is another record, bettering 72 (all fours) by England against South Africa in Taunton in 2003. Australia batters collectively hit 78 hits to the fence and three over it, the latter too, being the joint-highest count alongside three other instances.

76 - South Africa's 76 in the first innings is their lowest all-out total in the format. The only other instance of them getting bundled out under 100 came against New Zealand in Durban in 1972. It also happened to be the third-lowest team total against Australia, after England's 35 in Melbourne in 1958 and 72 in Adelaide in 1949, the former being the all-time lowest team total in Women's Tests.

499 is the highest lead taken by a team after first innings in a Women's Test, a new record, surpassing 459 by England (503/5d) against New Zealand (44 all-out) in Christchurch in 1935.

8 instances of seamers bagging all 10 wickets in a Women's Test innings, Darcie Brown (5/25), Sutherland (3/19) and Tahlia McGrath (2/4) contributing to the most recent one during South Africa's 76 all-out. Unsurprisingly, four of these eight instances have come at the WACA, Perth.

210 by Annabel Sutherland happens to be the fourth-highest individual score in Women's Tests, and the second best for Australia after Ellyse Perry's 213* against the England Women at the North Sydney Oval in 2017. The overall record belongs to Pakistan's Kiran Baluch, who had scored 242 against the West Indies Women in Karachi in 2004. Of the eight double-hundreds registered in Women's Tests till date, five have come for Australia.

248 balls taken by Sutherland to reach her double-ton, the fastest in Women's Test in terms of balls faced, bettering Karen Rolton's record who had got there off 305 balls against England in Leeds in 2001.

1 - Sutherland, who walked in at four-down, became the first player to register a double-hundred from No.5 or below in Women's Tests. The only other 150-plus scores from No.5 or below in the format are Emily Drumm's 161* for New Zealand against Australia in Christchurch in 1995 and Marizanne Kapp's 150 for South Africa against England in Taunton in 2002.

22 years 127 days - At 22y, 127d, Sutherland became the second youngest Women's cricketer with a Test double, only behind Mithali Raj, who had got there at 19 years and 256 days in August 2002. Among Australians, the record previously belonged to Michelle Goszko (23 years, 261 days).

134 - The difference between Sutherland's 210 and South Africa's first innings effort of 76, the second-highest in instances wherein a batter outscored an opponent's team-total. The highest such difference is 145, achieved by England's Betty Snowball, who scored 189 in response to New Zealand's 44 all-out in Christchurch in 1935.

99 - Alyssa Healy became the fifth cricketer and the fourth Australian to be dismissed for 99 in Women's Tests. Interestingly, she is one of the two Women's cricketers to have a career best score of 99 in Tests (dismissed or unbeaten) alongside Jonassen, while her better half Mitchell Starc is one of the 10 such players in the Men's format. Starc was dismissed for 99 against India in Mohali in 2013.
