Matthews stars again as WI round off with another win

Pakistan's joy was shortlived as West Indies managed to trounce them again to round off their tour on a winning note. Chasing 135, West Indies managed to ease past the target in the penultimate over to win the series 4-1. Hayley Matthews, who has been consistent in the series, stepped up once again despite losing her opening partner early. Matthews added 103 for the second wicket alongside Shemaine Campbelle to completely put her side on top. Eventually, she was dismissed for 78 before her side got the job done. Matthews was also rightfully named the player of the series.

Earlier in the evening, Pakistan made a confident start batting first. Ayesha Zafar struck four boundaries and Sidra Ameen managed to bat long at the other end. With almost eight overs left in the innings, Pakistan were well placed at 84/1. However, they could only add 50 more runs from thereon which eventually cost them the game. Once Muneeba Ali fell, West Indies ran through the lineup with Ameen watching from the other end. Pakistan finished with 134/8 and were clearly 20 runs short.

Brief scores: Pakistan 134/8 in 20 overs (Sidra Ameen 46; Afy Fletcher 3/17) lost to West Indies 136/2 in 18.2 overs (Hayley Matthews 78, Shemaine Campbelle 33*) by 8 wickets

May 2 - 4th T20I

Bowlers give Pakistan consolation win

Pakistan's bowlers came up with a brilliant performance to end their losing run and finally win a game in the ongoing series. Having already lost the ODIs, Pakistan had also conceded the T20I series by losing the first three games. However, their bowlers staged a commendable comeback to bowl the visitors out for just 84 in the fourth game. Skipper Hayley Matthews departed for just 1 and her opening partner was sent packing for a duck. Only three players managed to touch double digits. Sadia Iqbal and Nida Dar picked three wickets each as West Indies batted through 20 overs, only to finish with just 84 on the board.

With just 85 to get, Pakistan were cautious in the chase. Sidra Ameen fell for 15 but Ayesha Zafar held the innings together by batting cautiously. Alongside Gull Feroza, Ayesha managed to get closer to the target and eventually surpass it with more than three overs to spare.

Brief scores: West Indies 84/9 in 20 overs (Shemaine Campbelle 26; Sadia Iqbal 3/18, 3/19) lost to Pakistan 87/2 in 16.3 overs (Ayesha Zafar 42*) by8 wickets

April 30 - 3rd T20I

Pakistan collapse to hand WI thrilling win

Pakistan suffered a monumental collapse in the third T20I to concede the series to West Indies. Chasing 133 for the win, Pakistan were well placed at one stage following Sidra Ameen's half-century. At 115/2, they just needed 18 from 13 balls to keep the series alive. However, wickets fell in heaps towards the end as the hosts buckled under pressure to fall two short of West Indies' score.

Earlier, Hayley Matthews hit 10 boundaries in her 49-ball 68 but didn't find support at the other end as West Indies finished poorly. Eventually, poor game awareness from the opposition camp made it easier.

Brief scores: West Indies 132/5 in 20 overs (Hayley Matthews 68; Fatima Sana 2/22) beat Pakistan 130/8 in 20 overs (Sidra Ameen 63; Hayley Matthews 2/22) by 2 runs

April 28 - 2nd T20I

Matthews's all-round show helps WI take 2-0 lead

A stellar all-round show from skipper Hayley Matthews (3-25 and 58) led West Indies to a dominant seven-wicket win over Pakistan in the second T20I in Karachi on Sunday (April 28). By virtue of this result, the visitors have gone 2-0 up in the five-match series and have extended their unbeaten run on this tour to five games after having swept the ODI series 3-0.

Opting to bat, Pakistan's innings got a solid foundation from Muneeba Ali (55 off 47) who held the innings together with a fluent innings on what was another sluggish surface in Karachi. The other batters around her struggled for impetus and as the ball got older, Pakistan found it extremely difficult to keep the scoreboard moving.

Muneeba almost batted through after coming into bat in the fourth over and was dismissed only four deliveries before the close of the innings. However, the lack of support meant that Pakistan were unable to force the pace. Matthews led a very disciplined bowling effort from the visitors who exploited the slow track with some clever bowling.

Only 33 runs came off the last 30 deliveries as Pakistan crawled to a below-par target. A similar total had proven enough for West Indies in the series opener but Matthews ensured that her side didn't repeat their opponents' mistakes in this game. She showed intent in the PowerPlay as West Indies racked up 44 runs in their first six overs to minimise any pressure there could have been of the asking rate.

Matthews' 67-run stand with Shemaine Campbelle all but sealed the result in favour of West Indies although neither batter could stay on till the end. Pakistan's bowlers struggled to create consistent pressure but the home side were clearly about 15-20 runs short of a competitive total.

Brief scores: Pakistan 121/7 in 20 overs (Muneeba Ali 55; Hayley Matthews 3-25) lost to West Indies 124/3 in 18.2 overs (Hayley Matthews 58; Diana Baig 1-22) by seven wickets

April 26 - 1st T20I

Ramharack bowls WI to thrilling one-run win

Karishma Ramharack (4-15) orchestrated a sensational heist as West Indies nailed a one-run thriller against Pakistan in the first T20I at the National Stadium, Karachi on Friday (April 26). Chasing a modest target of 123, Pakistan were cruising at 104/4, needing just 19 more to win off 17 deliveries. However, the 18th over bowled by Ramharack saw a drastic swing in momentum as she struck thrice to turn the game on its head. Aliya Riaz holed out to the deep while Fatima Sana fell for a first-ball duck before Nida Dar perished off the last ball of the over. Suddenly, Pakistan needed 18 off 12 deliveries and an immaculate penultimate over from Aaliyah Alleyne that went for just six runs tightened the screws on the hosts.

With 12 needed off the final over to win, Pakistan's eighth-wicket pair of Tuba Hassan and Najiha Alvi snuck in a couple of doubles and a boundary to bring it down to two needed off the final ball. However, Shamilia Connell held nerve to produce a wide line delivery that was dangerously close to being a wide and keeper Shemaine Campbelle ensured that the bye wasn't stolen by effecting a run out to leave Pakistan heartbroken. It was a roller-coaster game that the West Indies came from behind to win in dramatic fashion.

The visitors had earlier crawled to an under-par total with the innings not having any momentum whatsoever. Losing the in-form skipper Hayley Matthews was a setback that dented West Indies considerably, and despite 30s from Qiana Joseph and Stafanie Taylor, the innings never got flowing. A couple of boundaries at the back end from Afy Fletcher pushed the total past the 120-run mark but it was always a modest total at best on a slow Karachi surface. In the end, the tourists ensured that it was enough for a win, albeit by the narrowest of margins.

Brief scores: West Indies 122/9 in 20 overs (Qiana Joseph 34, Stafanie Taylor 30; Fatima Sana 3-24) beat Pakistan 121/8 in 20 overs (Nida Dar 27; Karishma Ramharack 4-15) by one run

April 23 - 3rd ODI

Skipper Hayley Matthews led West Indies to a comprehensive 88-run victory over Pakistan in the third and final ODI in Karachi, sweeping the series 3-0. Matthews struck her second century of the tour - 141 off 149 deliveries - to propel the visitors to a strong 278/6 from their 50 overs before an all-round bowling effort kept the home team to just 190 in reply, bundling them out with 2.1 overs to spare.

Having opted to bat first, Matthews combined with Shemaine Campbelle (38) to stabilise the innings after losing her opening partner quickly. The second wicket stand was worth 93 and then went on to add 110 runs for the third wicket with her former captain Stafanie Taylor, who missed out on a half-century by just three runs. The wicket brought a bit of a collapse with West Indies losing three wickets, including both set batters, for an addition of just nine runs. Matthews, however, fell just as Windies reached 250, having set them up for a match-winning total already.

Pakistan never looked in the game in the second half as they lost wickets at regular intervals to concede the two IWC points. Mathews, Taylor and Aaliyah Alleyne picked two wickets apiece while Afy Fletcher - the only bowler to go wicketless - was the most economical of them all, conceding at just 2.6 in the seven overs she sent down. Muneeba Ali (38) and Aliya Riaz (36) were the two top-scorers for the team but even then, Pakistan were always behind the eight ball.

Brief scores: West Indies 278/6 in 50 overs (Hayley Matthews 141, Stafanie Taylor 47; Nashra Sandhu 3-54) beat Pakistan 190 in 47.5 overs (Muneeba Ali 38, Aliya Riaz 36; Hayley Matthews 2-26, Stafanie Taylor 2-29) by 88 runs

April 21 - 2nd ODI

Skipper Nida Dar's four-fer went in vain as West Indies held their nerve to secure a thrilling last-ball win by two wickets to secure the ODI series 2-0 with a game to spare. After restricting hosts Pakistan to 223 in Karachi, West Indies were cruising in the chase courtesy half-century knocks from Stafanie Taylor (73) and Shemaine Campbelle (52) before Dar triggered a late collapse. The visitors needed three off the final ball but Karishma Ramharack hit a nerveless boundary off her first ball - the last of the game - to seal the win for her side.

Having opted to bat first, Pakistan lost Mubeena Ali in the second over but an 80-run stand ensued between Sidra Ameen (50) and Bisma Maroof (65) to put the innings back on track. Ramharack and Afy Fletcher then brought Windies back in the contest with some regular strikes as the pair shared five wickets between them. Fletcher broke the crucial partnership and the pair struck once each on either side of Dar's run-out by Ramharack as Pakistan slipped to 165/6 in the 38th over. Maroof fell soon after, and Chinelle Henry helped clean up the tail to ultimately keep the hosts to 223 in 48.5 overs.

Despite losing Rashada Williams to Dar early in the chase, skipper Hayley Matthews combined with Campbelle for a 40-run partnership. The West Indies captain fell six short of a half-century, but Campbelle found an able aly in Taylor as they together put on 88 for the third wicket to keep the visitors on course. However, once the partnership was broken by Umm-e-Hani, West Indies slipped. The collapse of 5 for 39 almost cost them two crucial ICC ODI Championship points but Ramharack found the boundary at third region to script a thrilling last-ball victory.

Brief scores: Pakistan 223 all out in 48.5 overs (Bismah Maroof 65, Sidra Ameen 50; Karishma Ramharack 3-48, Chinelle Henry 3-37) lost to West Indies 225/8 in 50 overs (Stafanie Taylor 73, Shemaine Campbelle 52; Nida Dar 4-52) by 2 wickets

April 18 - 1st ODI

Matthews's all-round show propels WI to easy win

Hayley Matthews's unbeaten 150-ball 140 - the fourth-highest ODI score by a West Indian woman and the highest against Pakistan - paved the way for her team's comfortable 113-run win in the first ODI at the National Stadium in Karachi, on Thursday.

The West Indian opener stroked 15 boundaries and a six to help her side post 269 for 8 after she won the toss and elected to bat. Matthews stitched a 102-run stand for the second wicket with Shemaine Campbelle (45), which laid the foundation for West Indies' innings. Leggie Tuba Hassan struck twice to dismiss Campbelle and Stafanie Taylor in quick succession but Matthews steadied the innings in the company of Chedean Nation, Chenille Henry and Aaliyah Alleyene, all three of whom made small contributions.

Pakistan could never pose a serious threat to West Indies' total, losing wickets at quick succession, starting with the dismissal of Sidra Ameen - their leading run-getter in the ongoing ODI Championship cycle - in the second over. Tuba, who had picked a brace with the ball, top-scored with the bat, stroking a brisk 25. Matthews starred with the ball as well, returning three wickets to clean up the hosts for 156 in less than 36 overs.

Brief Scores: West Indies 269/8 in 50 overs (Hayley Matthews 140*, Shemaine Campbelle 45; Sadia Iqbal 2-38, Tuba Hassan 2-48) beat Pakistan 156 in 35.5 overs (Tuba Hassan 25, Muneeba Ali 22; Hayley Matthews 3-17, Zaida James 2-14) by 113 runs
