Michael Clarke: Our goal is to be more consistent overseas

Australia captain Michael Clarke was pleased with his team's convincing victories in the Test series against West Indies and praised the bowlers for doing a fine job throughout the series on pitches that did not have too much help for the bowlers. Australia won the Jamaica Test by 277 runs to clinch a 2-0 series win and Clarke credited his team for their consistent performance while mentioning that it was a good preparation for them ahead of the Ashes.

"I thought the boys played really well. Credit to West Indies, I thought they fought really hard throughout the series, but our bowlers were very good. The whole attack bowled really well throughout the series. The support we had from the Australians was outstanding. I am really happy to win two Test matches away from home. Our goal as a team is to be more consistent away from home. We are looking forward to the cricketing season ahead," Clarke said.

Steven Smith's terrific knock set up the platform for an Australia big win at Sabina Park and the Australia No. 3 batsman said he was happy to get amongst the runs ahead of the series against England. Smith, who did not contribute much in the opening Test, came up with knocks of 199 and 54* in the second game to be named the Man of the Match.

Speaking about his performance, Smith said: "It was nice to score a few runs in this game and contribute to the win for Australia. The boys played well throughout the series and it was nice to wrap it up 2-0. I thought our bowlers bowled extremely well to take 40 wickets. Now we are all looking forward to the Ashes."

Josh Hazlewood, who picked up a five-wicket haul in the first innings of the second Test, finished with a tally of 12 wickets and was named the Man of the Series. When asked about bowling on the flat tracks in West Indies, Hazlewood said the key was to concentrate on the basics and use the new ball to good effect.

"There was always something for the bowlers if you put it in the right areas. We bowled well as a group and the new ball is the key in these sort of wickets. To get a crack first up and do well throughout the series was good. I think these two games are a perfect build-up to the Ashes and we'll be ready when we get there," Hazlewood said.

The inexperienced West Indies were no match for the mighty Australians and the home team skipper Denesh Ramdin chose to reflect on the positives while mentioning that his young side showed a lot of fight against their formidable opponents.

"Australia are one of the toughest teams to play against at the moment. Our young guys have to take a lot of experience out of it. We showed some fight, but we needed to do better. Young Bishoo bowled well in Dominica and Jerome Taylor was very good to watch here. We need to look at the weak areas and correct them. We need to go back to the drawing board and improve as a team. We showed some good character, but we need to improve," Ramdin said.
