Pierre de Bruyn steps down as Leicestershire coach

Pierre de Bruyn, on Sunday (September 3), stepped down as the head coach of Leicestershire County Cricket Club with immediate effect.

The 40-year-old, who had joined Leicestershire as second XI and assistant skills coach before the 2016 season, went on to become assistant coach before being appointed as Leicestershire CCC's head coach by the end of the season. During his tenure as the head coach, the Foxes reached the quarterfinals of the NatWest T20 Blast, but were eliminated in the group stages of the Royal London Cup.

"I would like to thank the Board of Directors for the great opportunity to become head coach of Leicestershire County Cricket Club, it has been a fantastic experience," de Bruyn said. "I have enjoyed my time here and thank everybody at Leicestershire CCC for their support. I wish the club the best for the future and am now looking forward to the next challenge in my career."

Paul Haywood, Leicestershire CCC Chairman, said: "The Board of Directors place on record its thanks to Pierre for his hard work and efforts over the last two years but it has been mutually agreed that it is the right time for a change in the Head Coach position. On behalf of the whole of Leicestershire County Cricket Club, I would like to wish Pierre all the very best for the future."

Former Leicestershire player John Sadler will now take charge of the first team affairs till the end of the 2017 season, along with Graeme Welch.
