A magnificent day that had pragmatism pitted against ambition. Both teams had their moments of indecision - Pakistan had New Zealand on the back foot in the middle session - but New Zealand persevered with pragmatism, waiting on for the second new ball to trigger a collapse, and Pakistan stuck to bravery, much to my liking. First series win for New Zealand over Pakistan since 1985, first series win for Williamson at home, and a first Misbah-less match for Pakistan in a while. That's it. Kane Williamson - captain, New Zealand: "I think if we go to the start of the Test match, getting 270 was a good start. A lot of credit has to go to the way Pakistan batted today and set themselves with a chance to win the Test. Was an exciting finish. To get one wicket at tea time showed the class of Pakistan. The wicket wasn't doing a lot. When the run rate goes up, pressure builds. The bowlers had to bowl a huge amout of overs and had to keep the run rate down too. The first innings partnerships were important. To see Ross comfortable, playing his shots, was good to see. Pakistan are a very strong side. They aren't number two for no reason. A bit of white ball cricket now. We will focus on the next thing but we certainly enjoyed this win tonight."

Azhar Ali - captain, Pakistan: "We came in knowing that the target was big, but we wanted to have a big partnership and then plan ahead. We had that, we had the run-rate going but the last session, we did not bat well. Did not want to end up this way. Test wins mean a lot, and a lot more when you are 1-0 down. We wanted the run rate to go up when we appraoched tea but we left ourselves with too much to do in the last session, and lost wickets. I think we had a few outings here. The conditions were not as difficult as it looked. The first innings had a bit of grass and moisture but it looked a good batting pitch. We will take a lot out of this tour and we will try to imporve our performance in Australia, which will be a big challenge in itself. As a captian, it gets tougher, but I enjoyed it."

Tim Southee - Man of the Match: "It was nice I think. Good bowling performance from everyone. We knew things will happen with the second new ball, so we hung in there. The surface was nice, the conditions assisted the new ball and to take a 50-run lead after losing the toss was good. It's nice to get back to playing. Feels nice to contribute in what felt like a great Test match."

06:00pm local, 10:30 IST: What a match this has been. Nearly two days slaughtered to rains, a pitch too grassy for day five and we have this: an absolute mind-bending soul-twitching Test match. The good part is that the result is as anticipated yesterday evening, but the better part is that it never looked like it today. Pakistan were solid in the first session, going wicketless, lost just Azhar Ali in the second, and suddenly we all were led to believe that Pakistan had a chance.. only to have our guesstimates undone by a collapse of stunning proportions. Pakistan lost their last 9 wickets for 99 runs to hand Kane Williamson his first home series win as a captain.

Wagner to Imran Khan, out Caught by Latham!! Dying light, dying pitch and New Zealand have pulled off a heist here. Beat Pakistan's fight, beat the prospects of a draw and take the 2-match seris 2-0. And with this, New Zealand have a series win over Pakistan for the first time in 31 years. And what a way to have the last wicket. Wagner gets one to bounce from round the wicket, Imran looks to work it into the leg-side and gloves it to the right of FSL. Latham's there, his urgency suggesting that the ball will evade him, but out of nowhere, he lumbers across, pokes his hands out grabs a stunner to cap a stunning win for his side. Brave is not always the correct. That's what I have learnt. Riaz fell to the angle here. And his batting form - in the doldrums - didn't helped.
