What a sea change this has been from the Test matches. England doing every bit of justice to their brand of aggressive cricket, flaunting their firepower as an ODI unit. Bala Ramana: As Pietersen mentioned at the start of the match, Australia did the wrong thing by expelling Zampa. He could've been handy with the amount of purchase from the Gabba wicket.

Morgan, winning captain: I thought the bowlers were exceptional. On a hot day, the seamers bowled pretty well. Joe coming in, and bowling in the manner that he did. It puts pressure on the Australian batsmen. I'd like to think we'd get better as we go on, but a pretty good bowling performance. Far from our best performance with the bat. That's exciting in a way. We're 2-0 up and we're still looking for our best batting performance. That's pretty cool (when informed that this is only England's 2nd ODI win at the Gabba). It doesn't bother us. We take each game as it comes. We have a level of trust and confidence within the group and with each other. That confidence is there at the moment that somebody will put the hand up.

Joe Root, MoM: Was enjoyable today. Didn't think I'd bowl seven overs at the start of the day. The form he's (Smith) been in the summer, it was enjoyable for me to get the back of him. Whenever you come off the back of a series loss, you want to prove a point. It's a chance for us to show how good we are, especially away from home. Want to set a benchmark for ourselves. These two games have been good in that respect. The key was to keep the composure (when Starc got going). We knew we were just one partnership away.

Smith, losing captain: Unfortunately we're not playing good enough one-day cricket at the moment. Finchy played particularly well to score his hundred. We were in a good position and then we scored just 60 with seven wickets in hand in the last 11 overs and that's not enough against a quality England batting lineup. Lost a couple of wickets in a row. Marsh and Finchy got out in succession. Two new batters there. Just couldn't get that power going. Need to bat a little bit longer, and if we do that, we'd probably get that 320 we're after. It's a good opportunity for the other guys. I thought Richardson bowled very well tonight. So yeah, a good opportunity. We will have all three first choice pacers back in Sydney so we'll see how we go. Didn't think the wicket would play the way it did. Probably didn't spin enough in the second innings. This Gabba wicket has been different from the one we've known. It's a Q/F, S/F and final for us from this point on.

20:47 Local Time, 10:47 GMT, 16:17 IST: England have pretty much schooled the hosts in these first two one-dayers. If not for Mitchell Starc's threat, they'd have packed this up so much sooner, which is incredible considering they've won with over five overs to spare. Australia opted to beef up their batting today, thereby sacrificing the spinner on a pitch where the opposition spinners thrived. They then landed in trouble when the batting under-delivered to finish with a well below par score. With a pretty one-dimensional attack up their sleeve, and just the part-time of Head as the spinning option, it was always going to be difficult. Hales and Bairstow's start set England on their way, and then Root hung around to steer the side home like he did at the MCG.
