Well, don't be all surprised. You knew this was coming. Since probably Cape Town. But yeah, the result -- the series result -- still beggars belief.
This day started on a good note, thanks to *that* partnership between du Plessis and van der Dussen. But one they were out in consecutive overs, the floodgates opened and South Africa met, well, themselves. A 3-1 series win for the hosts then. What a lovely series this has been for Joe Root as captain, a young team coming together and all.

TEA - Day 4; South Africa 188 for 4
After starting the session on 90 for 2, Rassie van der Dussen continued to fight with a half-century and scored 92 with Faf du Plessis for the third wicket. He brought up his highest score in Test cricket with a six and a boundary against Joe Denly in the 51st over as he played the field beautifully. Even in the first session, when Joe Root brought himself on to attack van der Dussen, he immediately brought out sweeps to nullify the ploy and picked up quick runs.
England lost a review as well in the session as they challenged a caught behind call against du Plessis in the 34th over. The South Africa captain was late in leaving the ball and got himself in a tangle in the end. The replays, however, clarified that the ball clipped the elbow and missed the inside edge comfortably. Ben Stokes once again managed to strike with less than 15 minutes left in the session as he knocked off the South Africa captain. The ball nipped in and kept low to take the bottom of the bat and clipped the off stump as du Plessis fell for 35 - one run short of his highest score of the series.
In the very next over, Mark Wood ended van der Dussen's resistance to leave the batsman heartbroken. He had steadily moved to 98 and looked set to grab his maiden Test ton. Trying to play a booming drive on the up, van der Dussen drove a full Wood delivery straight to cover to end his 138-ball stay.

He got a few quick runs towards the end of first session and is now back to grinding it out. Gets there off 75 balls and is looking good at the crease with not much happening.

Back of length ball and du Plessis was too late to leave it. Root went for the review immediately for caught behind but the ball hit the elbow. Poor review really.

LUNCH - DAY 4; South Africa 90 for 2
With a 466-run target ahead of them, South Africa needed to keep things boring. The leaves, the blocks and staying patient were been on the agenda. And that's exactly what they did for the first hour in the day where they scored just 34 but more importantly saw off the new ball.
However, Malan lost his patience after the drinks break. Chris Woakes floated one outside off and the opener chased that delivery to be caught at slips. There was more drama from there on as Rassie van der Dussen survived two lbw calls.
In the 16th over, he was given out lbw as Woakes pinged him on the back pad. The ball, however, was going over off as van der Dussen successfully got the decision reversed. The very next ball, he was ping on the pads again but this time an inside edge saved him. There wasn't much from there on as he took on Joe Root to collect a few quick runs.
Dean Elgar dug in for 73 deliveries and fell with less than five minutes left for the break. Ben Stokes banged one in and had the left-hander fending at the delivery. Elgar lobbed an easy catch back to the bowler to hand England the session.

Hello and welcome to the live blog of the fourth day of the final Test between South Africa and England in Johannesburg. South Africa need 466 for a win while England will hope to end the game today.
There were brief periods that went South Africa's way yesterday. Hendricks picked up his maiden five-fer in his debut Test. De Kock and Dwaine Pretorius fought hard in the first session but it was a day that again belonged to England. Root scored a half-century, Wood bagged five and they just continued to bully the hosts.
Things, however, are unlikely to change today as well. It'll be a test of patience and temperament. Do the hosts have it in them?
