Binura Fernando provided the finishing touches and removed Mahmudullah for 53. Bangladesh never got going in the chase and lost regular wickets from the beginning to lose the game by 97 runs. In the process, Sri Lanka have managed to avert the ignominy of a whitewash at the hands of their Asian counterparts who are pretty strong at home.

Egged on by a ton from their skipper - Kusal Perera - Sri Lanka have ended up with a good total of 286 for 6 in the first innings. In a bid to avoid whitewash at the hands of the hosts, the visitors started off in an attacking manner and bossed the first powerplay. But Taskin removed Gunathilaka whose habit of throwing it away saw another not so glorious episode. Pathum Nissanka hardly stood there at the crease to be noticed as he was removed for 4-ball duck. Perera carried on with partnerships stitched with Kusal Mendis first and then with Dhananjaya de Silva. The final hurrah never really came and Lanka had to be content with 286.
